Interracial dating is much more excepted in today’s society

Interracial dating at one time used to be considered very taboo and people would turn away from interracial couples that they would see.  However there were not very many interracial couples that would actually walk down the street together before the years around the 1970’s.  And then even after the 1970’s it was still not very accepted in society, but interracial dating was more accepted then before the seventies.

Some may ask what happened in the 1970’s to make interracial dating accepted and the answer would be that the last of the laws that made interracial dating and interracial marriages illegal were abolished.  So the last of the legality of the interracial taboos were done. 

In today’s society there are many less taboos that come along with interracial dating.  Interracial dating is much more common now than it was in years before.  People and society do not frown upon interracial dating the way it was once frowned upon.  There are of course some of people with the same mind sets as those people in years before and they do not believe that people from different races should date or marry but these people are only a few compared to what the number of people with the same beliefs used to be years ago.  The amount of people who are against interracial dating are small and not the majority any longer as it once was.  Even in the early 1960’s there were not too many interracial couples walking around town together.  But now that is not the case.

Today’s society openly welcomes interracial dating and interracial marriages.  Today’s society allows people to feel comfortable when they are dating someone outside of their race.  Black women dating white or asian men, white women dating black asain men, asian women dating white or black men, it is much more excepted now than in days past.  Today’s youth does not even have any idea of the pains and extreme measures that had to be taken at one time if people of different races were dating each other.  Now teenagers and young adults only know of these issues from text books or from stories from older family members. 

In one poll taken it showed that the majority of teenagers and college aged students would not have any objection to dating someone of a different race than themselves.  Many of today’s youth is actually in fact of a mixed heritage. There are many children and the numbers are growing faster every day that are of at least two different races and sometimes even more than that.  Interracial dating and interracial marriages have created a whole other race of “multi” raced children and these children are proof that interracial dating is a good thing.  It shows much more tolerance than those people of years ago had and that is always a good thing. 

Interracial dating may cause some problems for some people but we all have some problems now and again.  If the problems come from a family member the person may have a hard choice.  Siding with the family member or with the side of the person they love may cause some very hard decisions for them but ultimately they must do what is right for them.  And these things do not always happen anymore. Again society is much more open to interracial dating than it used to be even forty years ago.
