Interracial Dating

Interracial dating and its path of acceptance.

As a woman who has not only dated interracially but has also married interracially I have to say that it has worked out very nicely for me and my family.  Being a white woman that married a black man and had four beautiful children together I have witnessed the best of interracial dating.

Now I am not saying that there have not been hard times and evil glares from ignorant people at times but for the last twenty years my husband but that is normal in any relationship whether you are in an interracial marriage or not and I have been very happy.  Interracial dating and interracial marriages are totally on the rise in so many places.  Since the very last of the laws forbidding interracial marriages was finally taken off the law books in the late 1960’s it started to rise.  During the years of the seventies interracial dating and interracial marriages went up considerably higher and since then they just keep rising.  Interracial dating is no longer something that has to be hidden and be ashamed of for anyone.

If you think about how interracial dating was forty or fifty years ago and then look at it today it will show you exactly how our culture and our society has grown.  Now I am not saying that everyone in the world is ok with interracial dating because there will typically be some ignorant people still but just by looking at the differences of how society feels is almost shocking.  Forty years ago if a couple was interracial it typically had to be hidden depending upon where they lived. Of course some places where more open to interracial dating and interracial marriages but still they would have to be careful.  Today I am proud to say that my children’s’ friends are mostly of a multi cultural ancestry.  They are friends with many, many interracial or multi racial children.

If you ask today’s youth how they feel about interracial dating the majority of the children and young adults will not have anything negative to say about it at all.  If you asked that question to young adults or children fifty years ago there not only would have not been answers but you would probably face some serious consequences. As a matter of fact you probably would not have even asked that question to anyone fifty years ago.  That is a significant difference in the way that society views interracial dating.

I will say that my children have luckily not had any bad experiences from anyone and their opinions.  And we are very grateful for that.  Because we understand that even though in our home we do not create racial lines or in any of the homes of our friends there are those people out there who unfortunately do create those racial lines.  Hopefully our children will not have to face anyone like that any time soon. If we look at the path that society has been down on its acceptance of interracial dating over the last few decades we will definitely see a rise in acceptance and there are less and less people who feel it is a very bad thing.  So my hope is that after another forty or fifty years, perhaps even soon than that, there will be none left in society that feels that interracial dating is a bad thing.  Interracial dating has truly come a very long way from being completely illegal and outlawed to the way that it is accepted today.  And as a women with an interracial family I have to say that to me there is just no other way to live than losing those racial divides.
