A Vacation Worth Taking

If you are like most people you have probably been carefully putting money away into your vacation fund. You want to have a vacation with your family that they are going to have tons of fun and remember for many years after. So you plan each moment out from the time that you pull out of your driveway until the moment that you leave to head back home. But what often happens is that you don't get to see or do as much as you wanted to. You never factor in the traffic, so you end up getting to your vacation destination later than the plans called for, and then it all goes down hill from their.

Well there is another option for your yearly vacation, and that is taking a road trip to the Smoky Mountains in an RV. RV's are one of the most memorable family vacations and going to the Smoky Mountain National Park will only make it better.

Imagine parking your RV rental, which comes in many different sizes to accommodate your needs, right along side of a river in the Smoky Mountains. There are so many things that you will be able to do here, so many sites that you can visit and then park back at the campsite for dinner and bed.

The kids will absolutely love the leisure they have while driving to the Smoky Mountain National Park, they will not be cramped up in the back seat touching elbow to elbow and knee to knee. They have space and it will probably help with that nagging headache you seem to get on every vacation while driving to your destination.

A vacation to Gatlinburg Tennessee is so much fun. There are many Gatlinburg attractions that you will be able to enjoy with your family, and then later park your RV in the Smoky Mountain National Park for a good old fashion camping night, but only with some added extras – showers, and a warm bugless bed. You can go bird watching, hiking, fishing, and white water all within the park. Or you can go in to Gatlinburg town and visit the museums, craftsmen fair, miniature golf courses, or motion simulators, or enjoy go karts or bumper cars, Ripley's Aquarium, haunted houses, or ride the sky lift up the mountain. Pigeon Forge is also another great place to visit and it's also right near the Smokey Mountians.

No matter where you stay near the Smoky Mountains you will have many things to do and to see. This national park offers an array of things to do for the lazy and adventours people. There are many different trails that you can go on that will lead you too some truly amazing waterfalls. Be sure to select the right trail for your skill level, because some of them will require you to climb. Check before going ecspeccially if you have your children with you. There are many different types of animals that you will probably see, and depending on what time of year you go, there is a great chance that you will see all the newly born animals following their parents around discovering all the new things.
I will never forget my RV vacation that I took with my family, and neither will they. It's become a yearly tradition to rent an RV and begin driving to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge Tennessee and spending a week there to take in all of it's beauty. I have even been contimplating purchasing my own RV to spend a little more time there and save even more money.

Hiking in the Smoky Mountains

Hiking can be a wonderful experience if you select the right trails, and in the Smoky Mountains you will find that there are many different trails for the many different types of hikers – new, intermediate and the experienced. There are over 850 miles of trails that offer many different levels of hiking experience a chance to view some of the most incredible views they will ever see in their lives. Before you get up on the mountain I want you to know which trails you should and shouldn't be hiking on. Here are just a few of the trails that you can hike on in the beautiful Smoky Mountains:

Easy trails:
Boulevard Trail is an 8-mile trip one-way, and a total of 16 miles round trip. This is one of the easiest of the five trails to Mount LeConte's summit. There are some people that say it was a bit strenuous, so I guess it depends on how good of shape that you are in.

Abrams Falls Trail this trail is five miles round trip. It's an easy trail because it is mainly a flat trail. So it's a great trail to take with the kids, it's elevation is only 340 feet.

Laurel Falls Trail this is a short 2.5 miles round trip. The best thing about this trail is that it leads to a waterfall trail in the park. It's mostly flat path will take you through a forest and is great for bird watching. This is another great trail for the kids it will only go to 200 feet elevation.

Indian Creek Falls Trail this flat trail will be an easy walk that will take you to picturesque Indian Creek Falls. This is a series of ledges that lead into a wide pool.

Moderate Trails:
Hen Wallow Falls Trail this trail is only a short 4 miles round trip. Although it can get steep and narrow, this trail will be a wonderful experience for intermediate hikers, with an elevation of 520 feet.

Difficult Trails:
Alum Cave Bluffs Trail – this 11 mile round trip trail will begin easy, but will become more difficult because it becomes steeper as you make your way down the trail. (11 miles round trip) starts off easy but become difficult. You will be forced to grip the trailside to complete this hike.

Ramsay Cascades Trail - This is one of my favorites because when you reach the end of this 4 mile trail you will come to the park's highest waterfall. It's a great reward for your efforts. Your hike to this waterfall will be memorable because of the wonderful scenery through the woods.

Chimney Tops Trail are a bit difficult due to the winding trail through the virgin forest that will take you to the Chimney tops pinnacles. It's 4 miles round trip, and it's elevation is 1,335 feet, and you will find a wonder picnic area on your route.

Hiking is wonderful and is a great way to was away the stress of your everyday life. There is nothing better than taking a few days away from reality and becoming one with nature.

I spent 4 of the best days of my life in a log cabin in Pigeon Forge. My days consisted of hiking the trails, watching the waterfalls and pushing myself to finish one of the difficult trails before my trip would come to an end. There are so many Pigeon Forge cabins that you can rent in the area for an extended stay to experience a few different trails and see the amazing sites from the mountain top.

Your Smoky Mountain Vacation

The Great Smoky Mountains, to give them their full title, are situated in the southern area of the Appalachian Mountains. First established as a national park in the 1930s the range gets its name from the natural mist or haze that forms over the top of the mountains. This natural haze is caused by a combination of naturally formed hydrocarbons and high humidity. It means that the blue mist is visible even from a very short distance, which adds to the natural beauty and wonder of the region.

Things To Do In The Smokies

Tourists flock to the region every year because of the wide range of activities and sights on offer. As well as being a hiker’s, canoer’s, and whitewater rafter’s paradise the region is also home to Dollywood amusement park, named after the region’s most famous resident – Dolly Parton. The region is also a very popular region for auto-touring because of the scenic routes that take in the popular attractions of Cades Cove and Roaring Fork as well as many other trails that offer peace and solitude with barely another vehicle in site.

Visit Cades Cove

Cades Cove Loop Road is an incredible 7,000-acre valley that was first inhabited by the Cherokee Indians when they settled in the area. However, the loop road is now popular with visitors because it stands as testament to the pioneers of the early 19th century. Homesteads, mills, churches, and other fascinating buildings line the incredible countryside at the side of this one-way loop road. If you are fortunate enough to visit the Cades Cove Loop Road then you absolutely must get out of your car to enjoy the region at its finest.

Tour Roaring Fork

Roaring Fork is a motor nature trail and is a monument to the combination of power and beauty that only nature can provide. Roaring Fork too offers a number of old buildings but in the same plentiful supply as on Cades Cover Loop Road. Instead you will be privy to viewing some of the most exquisite streams, forests, waterfalls, and wildlife. This trail also offers access to Grotto Falls and Rainbow Falls.

Follow The Nature Trail

The Smokies are a genuine haven for hikers and cyclists. By getting out of the car and taking the time to follow some of the less beaten paths it is possible to leave the rest of the world behind and relax in sumptuous, natural surroundings. Hiking really is the best way to make the most of a trip to the Smoky Mountains. Trail maps are easy to get hold of and the nature of the mountains means that you will never be stuck for somewhere to go or something to see.
