• 22 August 2007 - The Wisdom of Borrowing Money

This is a side route from the main thrust of this blog, but it occurs to me that we in the West, or who are members of the developed world are apt to spend more that we can afford. America is burdened with debt, Britain is burdened with debt and as far as I can tell, Uncle Tom Cobbley and all is burdened with debt.

How did we reach this dreadful state of affairs? Why is it that we encourage people to take on credit they can't afford and then suck our teeth when the roof is taken from over their heads? It is part of the psyche of the developed world to consume, and to consume we need cash advances and instant loans and ways around our poor credit ratings.

It is possible to borrow money responsibly - but how many do? We have not been encouraged by the lending industry nor by the advertising industry to be responsible. So we take on cash loans as if our future depended upon it. But does it?
