Classic muscle cars are basically older cars that were made during the 1960’s and the 1970’s. Now some people would consider only the American made cars to be muscle cars and then again other people would consider cars that were made during those years to be classic muscle cars. Your basic definition of a classic muscle car would be any car that has high horse power engine and can accelerate very quickly. The car will also have a modest weight. The term “muscle car” is typically referring to cars that were made in America, Australia and also South Africa that have powerful V8 engines. There are a few more determining factors but those are the very important ones.
For a bit of history of the classic muscle car one has to go back as far as 1957. this is when the first American car that was budget priced and very fast was put out. This car was named the Rambler Rebel. At the time it was the fastest hot rod of medium size that was available. It was also able to go from 0 to 60 in 17.0 seconds. For the time that was amazing.
During the sixties the popularity of muscle cars grew. Although at the time they were not called muscle cars at all and in fact that name did not start until the making of the muscle car ceased. The cars were advertised as “supercars” and that is how they were known during the years that they were manufactured.
The classic muscle car has many fans. The classic muscle car does not just mean one car there are a number of classic cars that make up the entire muscle car genre. To name them all would be hard but there are several that are very popular. The Dodge Dart from 1962-1965, the Ford Thunderbird 427 from 1964-1965, the Buick Skylark Gran Sport from 1965-1969, the Chevy Malibu SS from 1965, the Chevy Chevelle SS from 1965-1973, the Plymouth Road Runner from 1968-1974 and many other makes and styles of cars. The list of classic muscle cars can go on and on. You can even break up the list in to mid sized, compact and pony sized muscle cars. And that list can be even further broken into where the car was made, America, Australia, and South Africa. Classic muscle cars have been loved since they were on the roads originally but now over the decades there has been a huge following that has grown for these cars. Classic muscle cars are today found and rebuilt by people who love them. Everyone has their own favorite type of classic muscle car and some people will actually find them and restore them to their original beauty. They will keep the car in tune with the originality that the car at one time possessed. They will try to restore the car and use the same parts that the factory issued years ago. Most of the time they will even try to get the same paint color that was used from the factory. Other people will use what ever color and parts that they think look good on the car. Even though the color may not match what the colors of the original cars are the new owners try not to deviate too far from what the car originally looked like. That is the reason why the car is loved in the first place. Classic muscle cars are loved by many people and they seem to be lasting forever. | ||
