The less expensive version of teeth whitening would be the at home bleach tray system. This is where the patient will use a compound of hydrogen peroxide or perhaps carbamide peroxide. This gel or substance will be placed in a mouth tray that the cosmetic dentist has already prepared for you. Then you will put the mouth trays in and let them sit for the recommended amount of time. After a few weeks you should have the desired results. It may take up to three weeks for the mouth trays to work the way that you would want them to. During these few weeks you may want to check back with your cosmetic dentist to make sure things are progressing alright.
There is another type of mouth tray or bleach tray procedure that is preformed; however this version is preformed in the cosmetic dentists’ office. Here the cosmetic dentist will use a higher more powerful grade of bleach in the mouth tray. This is usually done with one or two visits again depending on the teeth that are being whitened. The other type of teeth whitening procedure is the laser procedure. Here there is again another form of bleach put onto the teeth and also a solution that is put on the gums and mouth to protect them. The laser is used to activate the bleach whitening solution and the procedure begins just like that. Depending on how many teeth are being whitened or how badly stained the teeth are will determine how long it will take. It can be anywhere from 45 minutes to two or more hours.
The ideal patient for any kind of teeth whitening procedure would be someone who fully understands the teeth whitening procedure and has stained or discolored teeth. Also it is helpful if potential patients are realistic in their expectations of the results. An ideal patient would be really anyone who would want to change their appearance because they are not happy with the way their teeth are.
