The benefits of having a criminal record expunged. - Posted at 08:56 on 2008-May-20 by Duncan Carver

A criminal record is something that can seriously damage a person’s whole life and career.  There are many people in the world that have obtained a criminal record.  You can get a criminal record for even the smallest of infractions like disorderly conduct to something very heinous like murder.  Either way the criminal record is going to follow you through out your life, unless of course you have your criminal record expunged.

Having a criminal record expunged can make your life a whole lot easier.  With an expunged criminal record you will be able to get jobs that were not previously offered and even buy some houses that you may not be able to have gotten with a criminal record.  People have been denied for both due to having a criminal record.  This criminal record can really hinder people from living the life that they should be living.

Many people who have had their criminal records expunged can definitely say that their lives have changed. They are able to get the jobs that they were denied previously and they can live in the homes that they were not able to live in before their criminal records were expunged.  A criminal record being expunged can only benefit the people who have it done.

Now of course there are probably many people screaming their heads off as they read this but these people must understand that there are strict regulations to having a criminal record sealed.  These people who are having their criminal records sealed are not the serial killers or the serial rapists at all.  They are the people who had a domestic violence charge that was acquired ten years ago because they were married to a person who was a bit dramatic to say it nicely and are completely innocent of the charges.  Or they are the people who got a disorderly conduct charge because when they were 22 they were out with a bunch of college buddies making too much noise on the street.  Of perhaps they are the 19 year old kid who gets a possession charge because they had some marijuana on them.  These are the people that have their criminal records expunged.

Some of the regulations in fact for having a criminal record expunged are that there can not have been any type of injury to anyone as a result of the crime that was committed.  There must have also been a significant time that has passed since the crime occurred.  The amount of time will depend on where you are in the world.  There are a number of rules to follow before a judge will agree to expunge your criminal record.  You must have also paid any fines or fees that the court gave to you before a criminal record is sealed.  There must also have been a completed amount of parole or probation that is finished.

Having a criminal record can be very debilitating to some people and having that criminal record expunged is the only way that they can return to their normal way of life. What if a woman gets a disorderly conduct charge several years ago?  She is an upstanding citizen and has never had any problems before the incident.  Well now she is going to buy a new home and she is not approved for it because she has a criminal record.  That is a way that a criminal record can really haunt someone.  Having a criminal record sealed or expunged is probably the best thing that someone with a criminal record can do for themselves.  That way they can return to the way life was before.
