The Worst Places To Put Wood Flooring

Posted on 2008-Sep-22 at 09:27

Adding wood flooring to your home is a wonderful addition to the interior design of your home, and also a great investment to it as well. But there are certain places in your home that you do not want to have them installed regardless of the type of wood flooring that you plan on installing. Don’t get me wrong here wood floors are durable and will definitely add a great amount of beauty and charm to virtually any room in your home.

So let’s take a look at what rooms should not have wood floors installed in.

One of the worst places to install wood floors in your home is the kitchen. The kitchen does look absolutely beautiful with wood floors, but most people that have them will tell you that this is also the area that the floors get the most damage. Think about it, how many times have you dropped something on the floor in the kitchen. It’s happens often, and usually the things that you are dropping can really damage the floors, such as can of tomato sauce. This will severally damage the flooring surface. And in order to fix this you will usually need to replace the boards that are damaged which will cost you a pretty penny. But if you want to install hardwood flooring or laminate flooring in your kitchen then the best thing that you can do is to invest in good mats that will cover it and protect it especially in the area’s that are most prone to damage.

Now the next worst place to add wood floors in your home is the bathroom. I am sure that this is something that you already know, but for those of you that don’t let me explain. Putting wood floors in your bathroom is just asking for trouble. This room has extreme temperature changes that involve moisture. Wood will expand and contract with temperature and you will quickly regret that you put them in here. I would stick with the linoleum flooring in this section of your home. Otherwise you will be redoing the bathroom floor in just a few short months.

There are so many amazing reasons why you would want to install hardwood flooring or laminate flooring in your home. But there are also many reasons why you want to really think about the area’s that you are having them installed. It could very well end up costing you more money in the long run if you install them in the two area’s of your home listed above.

You should also look into the best types of woods to use for your specific needs. The look of your home is important, but it’s also important that you get the most out of them as you possible can. Some wood types are harder so they will be able to withstand much more damage. While other woods are softer and will damage much easier. This is important, so I would do some research on the internet or talk with the company that you will be using for installing your hardwood floors or laminate floors in your home.

Searching on the internet will also give you the chance to see what the wood looks like and give you a much better idea of what you would want to have installed throughout your home. These are important factors that you should know.
