Birmingham Hotels
Birmingham offers a good choice of budget accommodation – even 4 Star and 5 Star hotels are pretty good value – especially at the weekend. This is because during the week, the city is expected to cater for the business traveller – who expects a good hotel with modern and convenient facilities. But at the weekend these hotels are relatively quiet and will slightly reduce their rates to boost their weekend trade. Here is our essential guide for hotels in Birmingham:
Cheap Hotels – Earlier in this blog, I said ‘Cheap’ in London doesn’t always mean ‘Cheerful’! – and I believe to a certain extent that the same is true in Birmingham. If the hotel is too cheap, in my experience, you will be looking a B&B out in the suburbs which is masquerading as a hotel.
Budget Hotels – Hotels that tend to come under the Budget Hotel umbrella in Birmingham city centre are – Travel Lodge, Comfort Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels. These budget hotels offer great value for money – they are clean, contemporary, centrally located and ideal for a 1 or 2 night stopover. These hotels are not full-service hotels – they do not have bars and restaurants and will not have flexible checking in or out times. The rooms, although clean, will be basic and items such as hairdryers and toiletries will not be offered as standard.
3 Star Hotels – 3 Star Hotels in Birmingham – although slightly more expensive than their budget rivals above, also offer value for money. These full-service hotels have more facilities – which will include amongst other things, a bar and restaurant, fully en-suite bathrooms, fully manned reception, room service etc. Inevitably because of these better facilities the hotels are more comfortable. 3 Star Hotels in London would include the Jurys Inn Birmingham, Holiday Inn Hotels and Ramada Hotels.
4 Star Hotels – 4 Star Hotels in Birmingham will be slightly more expensive than those hotels we have listed above – probably between the rates of £140 and £200 per night during the week and between £89 and £140 over the weekend. These hotels offer clients superior facilities and are much more luxurious – the bedrooms and bathrooms will be more spacious and sumptuous. The public areas, such as the bars and restaurants and lobby will be more stylish and better decorated and generally the hotels will have a more obvious designer edge than the cheaper hotels. The hotels are more likely than not to have leisure facilities and a spa. 4 Star Hotels in Birmingham include the Malmaison Birmingham, the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Macdonald Burlington and the City Inn Birmingham.
5 Star Hotels – 5 Star Hotels in Birmingham offer guests superior, luxurious accommodation in the city. These hotels can range from £200 upwards depending on which hotel and location you choose. Again, in comparison to their nearest 4 star rivals, 5 star hotels in Birmingham will be better decorated and more stylish. The hotel will offer sumptuous surroundings – bedrooms, lobbies, restaurants, bars – and the hotel will do their very best to make sure you enjoy your stay. 5 Star hotels in Birmingham city centre include the brand new Radisson SAS Birmingham and the Hyatt Regency Birmingham. Around the city other 5 Star hotels include the world-famous Belfry Hotel, the Marriott Forest of Arden and Mallory Court just a short distance away in Leamington Spa.
