Airline passengers will soon be able to offset their travel when they fly with Virgin Atlantic. The Gold Standard Carbon Offset Scheme is being run online and on board in partnership with the Swiss charity myclimate – the money will be used to benefit projects in India and Indonesia. Virgin Atlantic will calculate how much carbon is produced by each flight and then has this verified through CICS, the greenhouse gas verification company. Virgin then calculates how much this carbon equates to for each passenger by taking into account the different weights of the passengers seat and equipment in each class of travel. This means that passengers to choose to fly first, business or club classes will pay more than those in economy seats as their seat and in-flight entertainment equipment are significantly heavier. Virgin Flights will soon be available to book at Direct-Hotels.co.uk { Last Page } { Page 351 of 496 } { Next Page } |
