Dubai hotel development set to surge

The number of hotels in Dubai is due to increase by more than 100 inside the next decade, according to the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). Khalid bin Sulayem who is the director of the DTCM, said that by the year 2016 the number of hotels and hotel apartments is set to rise by 29.2% from the current 439 to 554. With this in mind, the bedroom capacity of hotels and hotel apartments is expected to more than double from 46,775 units at the present to 127,100 units by 2016, he added. Bin Sulayem also said revenues in this industry have reached Dh 6.4 billion (US$1.74bn) in the first half of 2007. ''Dubai hotels and hotel apartments played host to 3.4 million guests during January-June period. They stayed 10.2 million nights," he added.
