Elite Plaza, Gothenburg, Sweden

A distinguished member of design hotels.  From the beginning, the history of the Elite Plaza Hotel has been one of praise-worthy tradition. After once housing the Svea Fire & Life Insurance company during the 1880's, the buildings were developed by the award-winning architects of that era.

Recent renovations reflect the classicism of the hotel and this was showcased when the Elite Plaza opened her doors in January 2000. The beautiful doorway is made of fine-cut, partially polished granite and the genuine mosaic floor which is from England has been restored to it's original splendor. Pillared hallways with arches of Italian marble stucco and wrought-iron are only part of the New Renaissance style, and were noted by the Gothenburg Commerce & Shipping Journal in 1889. It was said to be "..an embellishment not to Gothenburg alone, but to the whole of Sweden. Svea has the honor of owning a building, which in terms of stylistic purity, barely has an equal among buildings throughout the rest of Scandinavia".
