HowTo Start A Business

Vending machine issues you should know about

Posted on 2008-Jan-7 at 10:34
Even if you are well versed in the world of vending machines there are some things that can come up and throw things off. Even though there isn't much you can do about some of the issues, you can jump in and take the lead. This way your vending machine business can be profitable instead of financially draining.

There isn't much you can do about businesses that are struggling to get people to them. They may be barely hanging on or deciding to shut down. If the business changes hands the new owners may not want vending machines out there. Even if it moves to a new location there may not be a need for your vending machines. Whatever the case may be you need to address the issue and then think about your options.

There are several things you can do to get things back on track. First, it is a good idea to have a clause in your vending machine contact about this. You don't want to find yourself obligated to remaining in that location or having to pay money to the owner of the location due to what you have in writing.

Should you decide moving the vending machines is the best option, talk to the owner of the location about it. You want them to understand that the move is based on financial needs for your business. Thank them for the opportunity to put your vending machines there. Extend your wishes to work with them again in the future. Should the opportunity open up to do so it will be easier since you left previously on decent terms.

Always be on the look out for new vending machine locations. This way you won't have to remove it and place it in storage for a while. Try to have a new location in place before you move the vending location from its current home. The little bit of money it is generating is certainly better than none at all.

Don't always assume that the problem is the location though. Monitor it for several days to see what is going on. You may need to drop your prices in order to make the sales. Consumers like to get a good deal so if they can walk down the street to save $.10 on the same product they will likely do it. If they buy products from vending machines on a regular basis this will add up quickly.

You definitely need to make sure the vending machines are working as they should. If they aren't delivering products but taking money that is a problem. This is going to steer customers away because they don't want to lose their money.  You may not think a $1 is a big deal but when you really want a drink it is the principle of the issue and not the amount of money they lost.

These are a few of the common problems with vending machines that you need to know about. Don't assume that everything will always work out without any problems. Knowing what could possibly happen though will help you to prepare for it. Your vending machines need to work for you and make as much money as possible. Instead of sitting around and hoping they do well, monitor what is going on and change what isn't promoting your business.
