Mobile was the home to the first Mardi Gras in 1703, and still celebrates this pre-Lent festival in a more family-friendly manner than their Lousiana counterpart, New Orleans.
Homebuilding in Mobile has surged in recent years, increasing 15% from 2005-2007. The varied offerings of this southern city draws an interesting mix of business people, young families and retirees, many taking advantage of the affordable housing market Mobile now offers. The real estate market in Alabama, especially Mobile, is booming because many want to be a part of this up-and-coming area of the United States.
