So you've made the huge decision to sell your house. Maybe you're moving. Maybe you have a new job and need to relocate. Maybe you can't afford your mortgage. For whatever reason you've chosen to sell your property, the task now is to find a realtor to help you sell it. Since a home is usually the largest investment a person makes in his or her lifetime, it's of utmost importance to take care in who you choose to help you sell your home.
So where does one start when choosing a realtor and real estate company? First, do some of your own local investigating. Check out for sale signs in the area and make a note of what real estate agencies have "sold" signs on them. Attend an open house in the neighborhood, talk to the realtor and get a feel for what his or her style is. Ask around for a recommendation from a friend, family member or neighbor. Be an informed home seller.
Next, interview a number of realtors before deciding on one. Make appointments to talk with 3 or 4 realtors. Ask them important questions such as how long they've been in the business, as well as if they're in the National Association of Realtors. They should also be asking you questions and taking interest in what you have to say. Find a realtor that knows your neighborhood. If they're new in the business and don't seem to know much about selling a house, move on to realtor #2.
Once you've done your research and interviewed a number of realtors and real estate agencies, consider who you feel most comfortable with. If one realtor made you feel comfortable with the idea of selling your home, give him or her extra consideration. Above all, you want the person who is selling your home to respect you and your property.
