Hair Transplants as a Hair Replacement OptionSeptember 10, 2007
Men can see it coming from a mile away.  First, the hair line starts to recede.  Next, hair thins on the top of the head.  Finally, front and back hair loss meet, resulting in full baldness.  Going bald can be very embarrassing for men, especially because there seems to be little or nothing to do about hair loss.  Fortunately, there are many things that can be done about hair loss.  What options are out there for men?

First, there are topical solutions, containing ingredients that stimulate hair growth.  Many of these solutions are available over-the-counter.  Most of these topical treatments offer remedies that are unproven.

Next, there are hair loss tablets, containing a form of dihydrotestosterone, which prevents testosterone from converting in the body.  This method may be helpful for men with partial baldness.  Women and children should avoid any accidental consumption of this pill.

Another option for balding men is using devices such as toupees or wigs.  Many modern-day options are available, offering natural-looking results.

Finally, the only permanent solution to hair loss is a hair transplant.  A hair transplant involves transplanting skin implants from hair-producing areas of the head into the bald parts.  This method has been proven to be a highly-effective treatment to hair loss.  Eventually, a hair-transplant patient will grow hair normally on a previously bald area of the head.  This procedure is performed by a plastic surgeon skilled in the area of hair transplants.

It's important for a patient to research hair loss options for himself, and to discuss permanent procedures with a skilled plastic surgeon.
