A Face Lift - What to ExpectSeptember 24, 2007
In this youth and beauty-obsessed world, we all know that the face lift procedure exists.  Although this procedure is widely-known and popular in the United States, many people don't know exactly what constitutes a face lift.

A face lift is basically just that- the lifting of the face.  A face lift (or rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure that starts out by making incisions on the hair line.  From there, the plastic surgeon lifts the facial skin, tightening the skin on the face.  After the skin has been lifted, the plastic surgeon stitches it.  Because the incisions and stitching are done on the hair line, there will be no visible scars on the face.

After the face lift procedure, the face is bandaged.  The first few days following surgery can be painful, but pain medication usually reduces discomfort greatly.  The bandaging is usually removed after 2 days, and stitches removed after 5 days.

A face lift patient can expect to recover in about a month.  It's very important that the patient does not smoke during that month, as it delays healing time.  Fortunately, the dramatic results offered by a face lift are enough to encourage any patient through recovery.  It's important to consult with a certified plastic surgeon when considering a face lift.
