| Of all the cosmetic surgeries out there, nose jobs are perhaps the most popular. Many Americans have gotten this procedure done, with reasons ranging from wanting to improve the look of their face to improving breathing. As popular as the face lift (or rhinoplasty) procedure is, many individuals are unfamiliar with the specifics of the procedure. Before getting a nose job, patients schedule a consultation with the plastic surgeon to discuss the specifics of the procedure. The plastic surgeon will make suggestions based on the patient's face shape and bone structure. Pre-operative guidelines will also be discussed. Before surgery, anesthesia is administered. Often times, another solution is injected into the area to shrink mucous membranes. Next, there are two surgical options for a nose job. First is the internal rhinoplasty. In this procedure, all incisions are made on the interior of the nose. This nose job requires great accuracy and skill from the plastic surgeon. Next is the external rhinoplasty. In this procedure, incisions are made on the outside of the nose. Furthermore, scarring only occurs on the crease between the nose and face, so scarring is minimal and barely visible. Most rhinoplasties last from 2-4 hours. After the surgery, the plastic surgeon will check blood vessels and the nostril opening to make sure everything is in line. Last, the plastic surgeon will close up the nose. Following surgery, the nose is splinted. This is removed after one or two days. Patients can expect some swelling following the procedure, but generally a nose job is a fast-healing procedure. | ||
