• 2008-Feb-4 - Creating Authority

Writing articles about you niche and submitting them to article sites is a great way to become an authority on a topic which will build traffic to your site and a name for yourself.

There are article sites that have categories for just about any topic.  An article site I run includes some of the following categories:

The key is to find 5 or 6 great article sites and become a regular poster to the section you are an expert in.  Make sure in the About Author section you have a few nice links pointing to your website or blog.

Also, being a frequent poster in other blogs and forums related to your niche will increase your credibility and authority on a topic.

It's not easy, but the results are we worth it.

• 2007-Sep-16 - The Truth On Text Links

Its hard to find straight talk on text links.  I found this Link advertising blog that really gives and interesting perspective on the text link advertising market.  It's not listed in Google so once you go there set up and RSS feed or bookmark it so you can find it again.

• 2007-Aug-6 - Article Site Links

Article Directory sites are a great way to get free links.  Just submit quality, original articles to the top five or ten article directories, include some contextual links within the article and also include a link to your site in the “Author Bio” section.  While these links are not highly powerful, you can get them cheap and in high numbers.  The bonus is that your articles ( if you get enough of them out there ) will drive traffic to your site.  Searchers start finding your articles and following links to your website.

I suggest submitting an average of two articles a week on a consistent basis. If appropriate, look at yahoo’s top searches of the day to see what is popular and somehow work these popular themes into your articles. Britney Spears is always a top search and if you can work her name into an article, it is sure to be found by internet searchers.

• 2007-Aug-3 - Contextual Links

A major change is taking place in the text link advertising industry.  Search engines are getting better at sniffing out irrelevant paid links in the footers and side bars of websites and not counting them in their algorithms.

So in an effort to make paid links more mainstream, an innovative new link company called LinkXL has come up with a way to dynamically add natural text links in existing content.

Since these are true contextual links, they are the type of links the search engines can actually use in their algorithms.  Isn’t this what the search engines want? LinkXL natural links in relevant content, give the search engines a very good idea about what your site is about and what to rank it for.

I would keep an eye on this upstart company if you want to see the next evolution in text link advertising.
