Parents have such a choice these days. They must choose not only major decisions about what is best for their child but also how environmentally responsible they are when it comes to the items that they use. Cloth diapers are one of the biggest choices that an environmentally responsible parent must decide to either use or not use. Many will argue that cloth diapers are much better for the environment than disposable diapers but then there are other people that will say cloth diapers are just as bad as the disposable diapers are.
Because there are so many parents that are not very conscious of the needs of our planet and do not try to make anything better at all, those people who are very worried about the state of our planet sometimes feel that they need to make all of the difference and make up for those who just do not care. This can really be a hard decision for some people. There are many conveniences with using disposable diapers and they are at times easier to use than cloth diapers And then there are many people who say using cloth diapers does not help at all. If you are concerned and need help in your choice of cloth diapers or disposable diapers you need to do a little research to help you make your decision.
First you must understand that there are many different studies that will back up both sides with facts. You must choose what facts are the most important to you and your beliefs. Many people say that the use of disposable diapers is horrendous. This is because there are over 18 billion disposable diapers that are tossed into landfills each and every year. These diapers will take more than 500 years to decompose. Amazingly disposable diapers actually are the third largest source of solid waste that we put into these landfills. It takes half a million trees to produce %90 of the diapers used for babies in the U.S.
On the other hand there are people who will argue that the amount of water that it takes to wash all of the cloth diapers that people use is just a huge waste. This happens a lot in areas of the world where water is scarce. Basically washing diapers at home uses fifty to seventy gallons of water every 3 days. That is a lot of water that can possibly be saved so people argue that point against using cloth diapers. Also using the detergents in the wash can pollute the water in the area.
Not only are there environmental issues about using disposable diapers but also concerns on what is better for the baby. Many say that all of the toxins that are in disposable diapers are bad for the baby and that cloth diapers are far superior for use on a baby. Cloth diapers will also allow the baby's skin to breathe better and may cut down on diaper rash on the baby. No one can really tell you what is best for you and your baby. As a parent you must make the choice between cloth diapers and disposable diapers for yourself. |
