Eliminate Anxiety and Panic Attacks for Good

Posted by JR on September 2, 2007 at 11:02 in Anxiety
You have shopped until you are about to drop and are waiting your turn at the register, it has been a long wait, and there is only a sole customer linking you to the cashier. When all of a sudden that familiar sensation begins to build within you, it begins by the tightening of both your throat and your chest as you feel short of breath and a bit dizzy when your heart skips its familiar beat - you recognise these familiar panic attack symptoms all too well. You wish you were somewhere else besides right here, right now.

A quick scan of the territory - is it threatening? Four unfriendly faces queue behind, one person in front. Pins and needles seem to prick you through your left arm, you feel slightly dizzy, and then the explosion of fear as you dread the worst. You are about to have a panic attack.

Your breath catches as in your mind you are now contemplating this being the big one you have feared. Stop, now focus: Calm down and remember what you have learned, you should apply these coping procedures right now. As your physician has advised, begin with your deep breathing, your mind and body needs air. In through the nose and out through the mouth.

Slowly now, remembering to think relaxing thoughts and again, while inhaling, tell yourself to relax then exhale. However, it seems that you may be feeling very self-conscious of concentrating on breathing and even more stressed than before.

Okay, coping technique 2: Gradual muscle relaxation. Tense both shoulders, hold for 10 seconds, then release. Try it again. No; still no difference. The anxiety is getting worse and the very fact that you are out of coping techniques worsens your panic. If only you were surrounded by your family, or a close friend were beside you so you could feel more confident in dealing with this situation.

Now, the adrenaline is really pumping through your system, your body is tingling with uncomfortable sensations, and now the dreaded feeling of losing complete control engulfs your emotions. No one around you has any idea of the sheer terror you are experiencing. For them, it's just a regular day and another frustratingly slow queue in the supermarket.

You are out of options. Time for Plan C. The most basic coping skill of all is "fleeing." Excuse yourself from the queue; you are slightly embarrassed as it is now that it is your turn to pay. The cashier is looking bewildered as you leave your shopping behind and stroll towards the door. There is no time for excuses - you need to be alone. You leave the supermarket and get into your car to ride it out alone. Could this be the big one? The one you fear will push you over the edge mentally and physically. Ten minutes later the panic subsides. It's still only 10:30 a.m. How are you going to make it through the rest of the day?

To someone who suffers from panic attack the scenario above can seen alarmingly familiar. In fact, it is possible just reading this article that the feelings of panic and anxiety are triggered. Everyone is different; therefore, it is normal that their triggers for attacks may differ. A panic attack can occur anywhere at any time.

If you have ever had what has become known as a "panic attack," take comfort in the fact that you are by no means alone. A panic attack always comes with the acute sense of impending doom. You feel you are either about to lose your mind or one of your vital bodily functions is about to cease functioning and you will end your days right there among the canned goods and frozen food.

Did you know that in America alone, estimation has it that nearly five percent of the population suffers from one sort of anxiety disorder or another? This means you are not alone at all. For some, inconsistent anxiety attacks are triggered when having to address a crowd. While there are others who suffer from attacks so frequently, that it keeps them homebound. Physicians refer to frequent panic attacks as an anxiety disorder.

However, not all is lost, as the beginning of your road to recovery starts right here. Here you will learn that there is a good chance that you are about to learn something that will end your cycle of panic attacks. Not only will you learn to gain new confidence in life, but also you will be able to regain your lifestyle. Here you will find an answer to living panic or anxiety attack free.

First you must realize that key to avoiding panic attacks is to want to have one as this will naturally push it away from you. For example, give it a try right this minute. Are you able to have a panic attack? No. The reason is that what ever you choose to refuse to go along with will refuse to go away. This fact also includes the feeling of fear. That is to say that if you resist a fearful situation, that fear will continue. The way you stop an anxiety attack is to embrace it as you move directly in its path, doing so will discourage the attack.

The heart of this technique is that by trying to have a panic attack you will not be able to have one. If you try to have a panic attack I assure you, you will not be able to trigger an episode. Whether you realize it or not, you have always made a choice to have a panic attack. You make such a choice by thinking that any scenario you are experiencing is out of your control.

The good news is, in all reality you cannot be harmed by a panic attack. Even though your heart is racing, you will not be harmed. You are perfectly safe and you can control your emotions.

Is Buying Tax Lien Certificates Good For your Health

Posted by JR on August 30, 2007 at 01:07 in Health
I recently saw a television program advertising tax lien certificates as a way to get higher interest rates. They made the area of investing in property tax liens appear very lucrative, and fairly easy to get into.

As I have some experience in this area, it's not as easy and stress free as they make out on the TV – and definitely not good for your health if you can't handle a lot of stress and anxiety that goes with it.

So here's my take on it…

Purchasing tax lien certificates is not for the amateur. It is a complicated process and will vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Let me outline my past experience with this. A community, after attempting to collect real-estate taxes, would have a tax lien certificate sale, whereby you would pay the taxes on the property to be secured by that lien. A reverse auction would be held; for example, I might say 12 percent and you would underbid at 11 percent, 10 percent and so forth, even down to negative numbers.

What's more, in certain states you have to get tax liens for three consecutive years. If someone else bought it for two years and you managed to get the third, you would be obliged to negotiate with the other person, because without all three liens you could not foreclose.

In addition, there is the matter of existing mortgages, which could present some difficulties depending on the laws of the jurisdiction and the person who is first in line.

In short, most of the get-rich pitches on television infomercials (and tax lien investment pitches like this one) will likely only make you poorer. If you wish to pursue this, spend some time in the nearest library researching what is involved.

Skin Care Products

Posted by JR on August 23, 2007 at 08:35 in Skin Care
Skin care is all just common sense as an aesthetician once told me. Aesthetician? Yes. From the word "aesthetics," meaning someone concerned with beauty.

In this case, the body beautiful. It's just another fancy word for skin care specialist.

During the hot summer months, when you expose even more of your epidermis, what's a better time to think about protecting yourself from drying, aging and wrinkling?

Soap and water are the worst things for your skin. Steer clear of bar soap because it breaks down the skin cells, causing flaking and peeling.

Instead, here's an easy, three – step process for keeping your skin in shape. First , use a cleanser to remove dirt. Next, apply an astringent that acts as a second cleanser and a toner. Finally, use a moisturizer for protection. Then, and only then, apply make - up as the moisturizer acts as a buffer between your skin and the make - up.

All this work is worthless if the products you use aren't any good. A good product can easily be classified as "if it does the job for you, then use it.". You may want to try produts from the obagi skin care range or other similar manufacturers, but if you already have a good one, stick with it.

Apart from applying cleansers and creams everyday, overall health is important for skin care as well. You're fighting yourself if you don't take care of your body - and it shows In your skin.

That means eating the proper foods (lots of fruit and protein) and, during the summer especially, providing your skin with protection, nourishment and moisture.

The sun is an excellent source of natural, penetrating heat, but you must take care to use a sun screen so only the helpful rays come through.

The best way to introduce your skin to the sun is to approach the sun gradually, going out for 15 minute stretches during the hottest times of the day. It's a hassle, but you must be careful and know how much exposure your skin can take.

Though it's the same old sun that once was shining on your mother, other factors have changed since those days making skin care much more important.

In my mother's generation, soap and water was adequate, and skin care education wasn't necessary. Today, with the foods that are marketed and the pollution leaving dust and dirt on your skin, everything is against you. You have to fight to prevent skin problems.

People aren't educated in skin care and that's very unfortunate. If you clean your skin properly, you won't have any problems.

Why, though, is such importance attached to good skin?

The way your skin looks can influence your whole life. If you have acne, for example, people don't want to bother you. It's hard enough growing up, but it's even harder with acne.

With proper skin care now, you can put off aging and keep away wrinkles. And no one likes to look old. After all your face and hair are the things people first notice about you and should therefore be the main targets in body maintenance.

Unfortunately, people don't accept you for what you are, but for what you look like, that's just the way society is.

Is Transcendental Meditation Really This Powerful?

Posted by JR on August 20, 2007 at 05:50 in Meditation
"Hi I'm TM - Fly Me"

It is an unlikely twist of a familiar airline advertising slogan, but for practitioners of  Transcendental Meditation (TM), it has special significance. Recent breakthroughs in Transcendental Meditation research have revealed advanced meditation techniques which, TM spokesmen say, allow humans to "fly" and to become invisible.

Meditation teachers Dan Teglia and Ted Weissman plan to begin teaching the principles of these advanced techniques this week in Reno to local persons who already have learned to meditate.

Teglia, a Renoite, and Weissman, of Great Falls, Mont, recently returned from the Transcendental Meditation movement's international headquarters in Switzerland. Each spent much of the last five years there studying and learning the new meditation process which, in their words, "helps create an ideal society."

Now they're based in Reno, with two other TM teachers. The four instruct in Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Idaho. They're now offering instruction in the advanced TM technique, with weekend and week-long classes every five weeks through next January.

According to Teglia, the meditation form of flying is a matter of mind-body coordination He explains that once mind and body are In perfect working harmony, anything the mind suggests can be done - including flying, becoming invisible or seeing long distances with the naked eye.

To reach that harmony, Teglia adds, one learns the basics of Transcendental Meditation, which seeks to eliminate everyday stress and focus within the mind on thought sources.

Teglia and Weissman repeatedly mention terms and phrases like "a state of pure order," "total coherence" and "supernormal powers" as products of the advanced techniques or formulas which are called siddhis.

The two teachers claim to have seen Swiss practitioners of siddhis "flying" — or rather, hopping across rooms without help from feet or legs or muscles The fliers simply sit in a lotus meditation position, with feet and legs tightly crossed and hands together on their laps.

Teglia and Weissman say when the fliers are deep into the meditation process, their bodies rise off the floor and move across the room, sometimes rising as high as six or eight feet and traveling 12 feet or so in a single "flight".

Teglia says the deeper meditation process which produces flying isn't an easy one to master. "You use the formulas like a telephone book. The formula shows you the number, but doesn't tell you how to dial." Weissman adds that he has seen persons become nearly invisible "They become very fuzzy", and has heard accounts of people going completely invisible.

And what is all this flying and invisibility good for?

The two visiting teachers say TM devotees are out to create a perfect society by eliminating stress from everyday life through meditation. They say crime rates in cities reduce significantly with increases in the number of residents practicing meditation.

The flying and invisibility, they ad, are only byproducts of the real fruit of the advanced meditation - the bringing of mind and body into complete harmony.

"We're out to create an ideal society," Teglia says "The siddhis help create that ideal society and develop mind-body coordination. But once you reach a state of enlightenment and total fulfillment (through TM), you won't need them.

Whether you actually belive these experiences or not is not really the point - I still believe meditation is a great thing, and a great way to get started is with some free meditation music.

Cures For Gout Symptoms

Posted by JR on August 20, 2007 at 01:16 in Gout
More Americans are living longer, living better but still looking for cures for gout symptoms as the incidence of gout is going up.

The typical patient is a man aged 40 to 70. Gout is relatively uncommon in women and rarely occurs before menopause.

Fortunately, physicians now have several drugs that can prevent gouty attacks and keep them under control when they occur. Gout is classified as a form of arthritis. Gout results from too-high blood levels of uric acid, which is a product of metabolism The uric acid is deposited in the joints, causing pain, swelling and redness that are the symptoms of gout.

Perhaps one case in 10 results from overproduction of uric acid. The great majority are due to inadequate disposal of uric acid by the kidneys. Gout often strikes in the big toe because it is the joint that is most prone to suffer trauma caused by normal walking. Gout develops because of the combination of high uric acid plus inflammatory white blood cells.

The classic case is one in which someone goes to sleep in comfort and awakes with excruciating pain in the big toe (although other joints can be struck as well).

An acute attack of gout might be treated with colchicine, or with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. They usually bring relief in a day or two. Corticosteroid drugs or a hormone called ACTH may be prescribed in some unusual cases.

For longer-term treatment, daily doses of colchicine might be given for a tune to prevent new attacks.
