I was present at the birth of a friend’s baby the other day, and as the baby was shown through the glass window, generating the customary crescendos of ohhs and ahhs from the gathered audience, I couldn’t help thinking that here we were witnessing perfect health, the ultimate healthy body without diseases or imperfections, health as it should be, in all its innocent glory!

Vitamins are living enzymes complexes responsible for the production of natural biochemical reactions in our body. When taken in their organic form, vitamin can therefore perform the very functions they are called upon to perform unlike the synthetic vitamins which are no more than glorified chemicals quite capable of causing havoc in our body.
As a society geared towards consumption, we are confronted with an unprecedented choice of vitamins, as daily supplements or multi vitamin super duper and multi boosted tablets of sheer vitamin power and yet an increasing number of Americans are chronically ill.
Even the foods we buy boast products that include vitamins (in fact these “vitamins” are almost always chemicals components).
We are what we eat and in a country where billions of dollars of synthetic vitamins are spent on a yearly basis, the overall state of our health seems to indicate that those synthetically produced nutrients are falling short of the promises on their labels.
And so as the realization that these synthetic chemical vitamin products are not the real deal gradually becomes evident in our mind, the problem we now face is where to find, the good vitamins that our body craves.
The answer to that question is simple. Just as the food we eat should be organic, so do the vitamins we take as supplements. If there is one message that one needs to remember, it is that when it comes to vitamins, nothing compares with organic food which when consume provide our body with all the necessary nutrients it needs for its well being!
Since we know that not all vitamins are created equal, our recommendation is that organic vitamins are the only vitamins containing the necessary nutrients our body needs for optimal health and therefore should be the only ones used in our daily supplements.
Nature in its infinite wisdom has created a world ripe with organic food that is ideal for our health. Babies are born as a testimony to this perfect health which is our inherent right as human beings, just like the baby who’s birth I had begun to celebrate..
And as I was contemplating this beautiful bundle of joy, image of nature’s perfection, I couldn’t help hoping that those around him, the parents and siblings, the friends and teachers would ultimately remember natures’ lessons and stir baby into a path of organic food.
And as time drew nearer for baby to be returned to the peace of his first earthly sleep and we were starting to walk away, some of us rushed to the nearest soda machine where they proceeded to pour themselves one of the very products which nature had never intended.
It seemed that this baby would need all the help he could get in the form of organic vitamins and other such organic foods.

Indeed, inadequate sleep duration increases the levels of grehlin, a hormone responsible for making us hungry and decreases the levels of leptin, the hormone responsible for making us feel full! Sleep depravation is also a factor in our choice of food making us crave for food that is high in carbohydrate and sugar. This is caused from the fact that sleep loss decreases insulin sensitivity increasing our risks of developing type 2 diabetes. With legion of singles, men and women out there, I am always amazed at how some of us behave when it comes to selecting and then meeting a partner for the first time. It doesn’t matter whether you found your possible match on an online dating site, or through work, friends or whatever, it never fails.
Habits forged over a life time are always difficult to dismiss. After all we are creatures of habits. They guide us through our lives, make us feel better about ourselves, act as buffers, go-between separating us from the world out there; determining whom we are and how we live and how we lead our lives.
But according to a recent poll, a staggering 30 pc of American adults are singles, some having never been married before. Staggering as these figures are, one thing they indicated that as far as our dating habits are concerned, we may very well be embarked on the wrong path. They have not brought us any luck so far in our attempts to find relationship and romance, and in all likelihood, they will not bring us any more success in the future.
Over time, we become so entrenched in bad habits that we don’t even see them for what they really are: a hindrance to our dating success, a determining factor in the reasons why we are singles.
It seems evident then that we ought to re-visit our preconceived ideas about who we are really, and the partners we are looking for. Let’s not be afraid of learning from past mistakes. Our expectations, our assessment of the men and women we are and want to meet, all these need to be looked at more carefully.
Dating, and online dating is difficult. It’s not an easy task to find a partner, a soul mate, a companion to spend a life time with, or at least some of it. For the sake for sanity, let us not make it any more difficult then it already is.

Carbohydrates, insulin, will power and weight loss.
We have all heard this before. As teenagers from our school coaches who would constantly belt out the proverbial “no pain, no gain” concept, this ridiculous idea that unless we exercised like crazy people, we would not likely see the benefits of our effort, and then from family and friends commenting on our lack of success in weight loss. “If there is a will, there is a way” we were told, or in other words, the reason we were overweight was simply because we just didn’t really want to lose weight.
Yes, we have heard this before. Statements such as: "You willpower is the ideal fat burner!". And with the passing of the years, these ideas have reinforced themselves into our subconscious mind, making it increasingly difficult to get thinner, fitter, and healthier.
Talk to any weight loss doctors who were once overweight and successfully lost their excess weight and fat, and chances are you’ll be told that food cravings and weight gain are not always the result of a lack of willpower.
How about that for an eye opener! Most of us who are chronic dieters have one thing in common then. We are not short of willpower (feels good just writing this again!) and likely suffer from a metabolism that produced too much insulin due to an addiction to carbohydrate.
You are a carbohydrate addict if:
- You are hungrier after breakfast and before lunch time then if you had skipped breakfast all together.
- You are tired and sluggish after a large meal (particularly in the afternoon)
- You have been on diet after diet and have as much weight to lose (or even more) as when you started.
- You want to eat when you are bored or tired
- You feel that you are not satisfied, even after a meal
- You find it harder to lose weight then when you were younger.
If you answered “yes” to any two of the above six question then you are mildly carbohydrate addicted. You are moderately addicted if you have answer “yes to three to four questions, and you have a severe carbohydrate addiction if you said “yes” to five or all of the above questions.
So what do you do if you need to reduce your insulin level? Limit your carbohydrate intake to one meal a day.
Remember: Carbohydrate rich food include breads, grains, cereals, ice cream, milk, yogurt, fruit and juices, luncheon meats, pasta, noodles, rice, snack foods, sweets and starchy vegetables such as beets, squash, carrots, zucchini, corn, tomatoes, peas and potatoes.
Craving reducing foods include red meat, poultry, cheese, tofu, oils, fats, dressings, non starchy vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, greens, peppers, lettuce, asparagus, broccoli and mushrooms.
Of course it doesn’t hurt if you take a fat burner supplement.
American Vacations: live the American Dream

I was thinking the other day that soon, I would have to start making plans for my next vacation. Funny how the mind works though: as soon as the thought of my future holiday destination entered into my mind, I was transported forward into the future, and with images stored in some hidden recesses of my brain, this time in my future started to shape and form, a reality solid enough that for a moment, nothing else mattered. It felt like I was there, several months forward, enjoying a well earned vacation!
So there I was looking through my world atlas for a destination of my dreams flipping through the pages when I came across a map of North America and there it hit me. At a rate of one State a year, it would take 50 years to explore the US, 50 American Vacations that would not even scratch the surface of this great big land of ours. Indeed I remember visiting the Grand Canyon with my wife last year when we thought that one week of exploration through this incredibly beautiful land had only enabled us to see but a mere fraction and we had promised each other to return another year. I remember thinking back then that this magnificent Grand Canyon National Park had been carved by the Colorado River, a body of water moving down from a great distance and it probably took it millions of years to achieve its goal, some 6 million years ago. A piece of art, millions of years in the making but the greatest architect of all, nature, to bring us this ultimate American Vacation dream.
Whether you are the type of tourist that like to remain active and enjoys the outdoor or a more sedentary travelers who prefers comfort and a comfortable bed at end of the day, American Vacation are the leys to a wonderful holiday
So: chose a state of interest, determine the areas you want to visit, the type of vacation you enjoy and start planning. You can get there by car, train, plane, boat and once there you can either camp, stay in a hotel, a cabin or a vacation home. So you have been dating this wonderful single woman for sometime! You have shown yourself to be the perfect gentleman, attentive and kind, ready to and show emotions when required. Turns out heterosexual kisses, the one you are planning to do on your next date, give women information on everything about their health, their willingness to commit and whilst you may have worked really hard at being the best you can during those first dates, a bad first kiss may send your date packing in a hurry!
As if we didn’t know this before, the study found that more than half the men were ready to have sex with just about any women, even those with bad breath as long as long as they found them mildly attractive, whereas only 14 pc of the women said they’d be intimate without a kiss.
So next time you get yourself ready to kiss your date for the first time, remember to brush your teeth before going out, have some mints in your pocket for any linger after taste of this spicy meal you just had and don’t even try until you have a dentist give your mouth his drilling attention.

As part of my job, I am in daily contact with health professional, doctors, dieticians etc... The other day, I found myself in the presence of doctors and their nurses during a dinner organized by a pharmaceutical company. As all these even are, this particular one was equally as boring and I couldn’t wait for it to end. As the caterers started to serve the deserts, I could not help commenting that a cheese cake was not the most nutrition food served at a doctor’s table during a health related function.
Here is the advice these doctors as a whole were following for themselves:
They were all in agreement when saying that they consume moderate amounts of protein and fat, as well as being selective about the carbohydrate they eat. Protein is the most essential food that our body requires and so they ate at least 10 to 20 ounces of protein per day. They found their protein in lean red meat, fish, poultry, low-fat cheese, eggs and tofu.
They kept their carbohydrate intake to a minimum, 60 to 80 grams daily so as not to have an adverse impact on insulin levels. They found these carbohydrates in a wide variety of fruits and vegetable
They take multivitamin to ensure they get all of the nutrients they daily food might miss.
And of course, they exercise regularly, by way of high impact aerobic and resistance training, four times a week for one hour.
As a side note, I was struck that 3 of the doctors had complete different views on the amount of carbohydrate they themselves felt they needed, with one doctor saying that he had mostly carbohydrate, consisting mostly of whole grains, root vegetable and green and yellow vegetable, whilst he limited the consumption of fruits because of their high sugar content.
At the end of the conversation, I could not help asking them what they thought about Phentermine. This question had some interesting and juicy responses. A couple of doctors recalled the days of the fen-phen diets when they made quite a living prescribing the then “ultimate” diet pill. One of them didn’t even know that Phentermine was FDA approved whilst another admitted that she had taken phentermine herself as diet supplement pill in order to help lose weight and that she would gladly do it again.
So here you have it.. When it comes to diets, phentermine might be the catalyst you need in your own battle to lose weight.
Weight loss, Fitness, Health and TV programs

Fond as my wife is of a particular TV program which relates the life of a sublime female doctor with more PhDs than I have teeth in the private practice of a Los Angeles private medical care, I made the mistake recently of admitting during a moment of rare weakness that I thought the woman was beautiful! I mean, this woman seemingly had it all, the complete package so to speak, health, looks, beauty, brains and to top it all, a definite feline quality of a body in supreme shape as she danced semi naked in the darkness of her kitchen.
Now I know women (and men) are susceptible to the odd moment of vulnerability, bombarded as we are constantly with images of health products, diet pills, and exercise programs and equipment designed to be the precise and very last missing element in our endeavor of weight loss not to mention Vitamins and Minerals. And when confronted with perfect people on our TV programs, it is not unreasonable to feel somewhat threatened by the images they project so I was not surprised that my seemingly innocent comment caused my wife to come face to face with her very own boogie man.
And so, thoughtful as I am about sparing you the private details of my married life, suffice to say that much effort in the ensuing argument was spent in the analysis of why this particular doctor actress could afford to be beautiful, thin and sexy. After all, didn’t she have all the money in the world to afford just about any health product, fitness trainer and more and what woman wouldn’t look her absolute best with that kind of money!
“I am going to show you who is beautiful” she kept on saying, and I, in the wisdom of the defeated husband knew to keep quiet, at hand just in case actions on my part were needed, but discreet.
A particular book on lose the fat, burn the muscle was immediately purchased and is being read right as I type these lines.
In addition, my wife ordered a supply of weight loss pills called phentremine which has the promise of accelerated weight loss whilst at the same time being safe.
As for me, I will have to remember to keep quiet the next time, and of course, it wouldn’t do me any harm if I was to lose weight myself.
At least that way, I will be able to keep up with my brand new wife, instead of drooling about some gorgeous doctor actress who probably thinks that she is way to fat!

Have you ever glanced at yourself in a mirror or on a shop window, I mean the sort of inadvertent glances one gives when one’s mind is absent? Well, I did the other day. Funny how the mind works though. And so, even though I had thus far quite enjoyed my life the way it was, I have resolved to be more frugal in my daily culinary festivities whilst at the same time looking for science as means to help me achieve my goal of losing weight.
And so with the help of science, I have looked at a newish weight loss product spelled two different ways as if to remind us that it has some roots in another and now defunct weight loss product: Fen-Phen.

If you are considering going on holiday or vacation with your family, then you’ll know by now that this type of trip can be expensive. Of course, if I choose one state a year to visit I might simply not have the time to make it to the end before embarking on my next celestial vacation, a more final destination but that is another story.

This of course entails several decision making processes where budget and destination will certainly play a big role. Dieters spend a lifetime dieting and if you added all pounds lost per dieter chances are it would come up to be more than the current body weight of those dieters. How about that! To hop from one diet to another over years of efforts trying to lose weight and what is the result? When all is said and done, most might as well have not even tried!

Some call it a scale, I call it the bearer of bad news..
For most us, as we leave youth behind and get caught in the aging process, so does our body's ability to process all these fatty food that we over consumed as effectively as it did before. And we put on weight.
This just in . . . Want some smart advice? Eat blueberries. That’s what researchers told the National Institute on Aging's Gerontology Research Center in Baltimore, Maryland. According to their findings, a blueberry-enriched diet prevents an age-related increase in a protein (NF-kappaB) that responds to oxidative stress, a probable cause of brain aging. A second study presented at the same conference found that blueberries can help lessen some of the functional damage caused by brain injury. In the second study, researchers fed one group of young rats a diet supplemented with a 2 percent blueberry extract; another group was fed the same diet, but without the extract. After three months, all the animals received chemically-induced lesions in their hippocampus, a region deep within the brain that plays an essential role in learning and memory. Damage to the hippocampus results in an inability to remember recent events. The researchers then tested the animals' ability to learn a complicated maze task. The rats that had been fed the blueberry extract were significantly less impaired at performing the task than those that did not receive the extract. To boost your blueberry intake, add them to smoothies and blended juices. Or try them for a low-cal, antioxidant-rich dessert. Just place a mixture of blackberries, blueberries and raspberries in a goblet. Cover the berries with sparkling water and serve. It’s a simple, yet elegant dessert that’s healthy as well as delicious.

Every year, at around this time, mainstream medicine steadies itself for Flu season. Pretty soon, every one will be once again advised to get the Flu vaccine, but do we really need them? Can a simple flu shot really protect against the annual aches, sore throats and fever that are the Flu's companions.
The simple answer is not really, unless you are a high risk candidate for the Flu with yearly fights against it which be accompanied by high fever and even sometimes a trip to the hospital.
Protection or Panacea
The flu vaccine contains two or three inactive or "dead" viruses (out of a possible 200 flu strains) that were prevalent the year before. On this basis, it seems that the vaccine does afford some protection, but of course, since these strains are constantly changing, vaccinations can at best be partially successful in preventing outbreaks of the disease. In other words, medical science is constantly playing catch-up, hoping that last year’s strains match those in circulation this year.
If they are a match, the vaccine can prevent 70 to 90 percent of flu cases in people under the age of 65. But if you’re over 65, protection can drop to as low as 30 percent.
What about the risks
In addition to the above, the vaccine also contains other ingredients made up of a combination of additives, including thimerosal (a mercury derivative), formaldehyde (a carcinogen and neurotoxin) and aluminum (a neurotoxin that has been implicated in Alzheimer’s disease). For those of you who are allergic to egg, it is worth noting that the vaccine also contains egg protein. Getting a flu shot could cause a drop in blood pressure, wheezing, breathing difficulty and hives in people with this allergy. But you’re doctor may not be aware of this ingredient, so if you do suffer from an egg allergy, make sure you talk to your health care professional before you agree to a flu shot.
But there is worse still… There is evidence that seemingly links the flu vaccine to serous eurological side effects. The flu vaccine is known to have caused Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) and other autoimmune conditions. GBS is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. The first symptoms of this disorder include varying degrees of weakness or tingling sensations in the legs. In many instances, the weakness and abnormal sensations spread to the arms and upper body. These symptoms can increase in intensity until the muscles cannot be used at all and the patient is almost totally paralyzed.
While the CDC claims that the risk is small (one in 100,000), this wasn’t the case in 1976. Of the 46 million people who were vaccinated against swine flu that year, 532 developed GBS and 32 of those died. At least one other study has also found a link between GBS and other strains of the vaccine.
Ok. No shot for me.. What about nasal sprays?
At first this solution seems to be the perfect choice, easy to administer, and of course, no needles are involved so it’s painless. One such nasal spray is FluMist, a recently FDA approved product, but the problem is that it’s been approved for healthy people between the age of 5 and 49, the very people who need the vaccine last! Besides the drug’s age limitations, FluMist has other drawbacks. Side effects include sore throat, coughing, nasal congestion and runny nose. (Funny, that sounds an awful lot like the flu.) And people with asthma or respiratory diseases need not apply. It’s also not cheap. A point of concern for me is that FluMist contains live influenza virus, diluted of course, but still potent enough to pose a risk to those with a weakened immune systems.
Fortunately, it is relatively easy to guard against the flu. The key of course is to boost your immune system before the season starts.
