If you’re a yearning for a good classic story, why not check out “The Kite Runner”, a top 3 best seller books in the United States in 2005. The success of this book mostly stemmed from word of mouth. Readers love it so much so that they recommend it to their friends. It’s so popular that it’s had been made into a film recently.

The film version of “The Kite Runner” was mostly shot in China, even though most of the story takes place in Afghanistan due to the danger of filming there. The film version is first due to released on November 2, 2007. However, the release date has been push back 6 weeks to December 14, 2007, due to a concern about safety of the young actors, Afghan local boys, and their families.  Zekeria Ebrahimi, the young actor who plays Amir as a child has said “…If I became rich here I would be worried about security. It's dangerous to have money because of the kidnapping."

The Kite Runner is a powerful first English novel by Khaled Hosseini. It is a story about Amir an Afghan-American living in California recounting his childhood in Kabul, Afghanistan during 1970.

The Kite Runner story set during the last peaceful days of the Afghan’s Monarchy through to the Soviet invasion and the rise of the infamous Taliban regime. You can get a glimpse of how brutal life in Afghanistan is during those times through The Kite Runner.

Amir is haunted by the guilt of betraying Hassan, his childhood best friend. Amir is a son of a local rich businessman. Hassan is the son of his father’s servant who usually protects Amir from neighborhood bully. During the day of Amir’s favorite sport “Kite Fighting”, Hassan was brutally beaten by the bully while Amir hides and watches too scared to help, things are never the same between the two boys.
