Scandinavian Design Furniture

2008-Feb-13 - Home furniture (hem möbler) and its designers.

Home furniture (möbler) is a major point in design for many of the home furniture (hem möbler) designers.  There are such major home furniture (hem möbler) designers that have graced us with their fabulous designs for years.  Many of these home furniture (hem möbler) designers actually come from the regions of Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.

The home furniture (hem möbler) designers that come to mind the most would be such designers as Bruno Mathsson, Yngve Ekström, Alvar Aalto and Hans J. Wegner.  These are what some call the fathers of Danish designs.  There were many different types of beautiful home furniture (hem möbler) that was created by these amazing men.

Bruno Mathsson gave us the Fällbord table (bord).  This was a table (bord) that was created in the year 1935 and has many different admirers. This table (bord) was first created with supports made from birch.  The table top was produced in a laminate surface and it was also produced with an oak, beech, cherry or ash wood table top.  This table (bord) that was created by Bruno Mathsson is able to fold into a small 23 cm when it is totally collapsed.  That is an amazing feat in itself but to be able to also expand into a table that is 280 cm long when it is fully extended is also no small feat.  This is the key to Danish home furniture (hem möbler) design.  Simplicity and function all rolled into one key component.

Bruno Mathsson was extensive in his studies of how people sit for his chairs.  He would borrow books on things he was not secure in and would learn through them.  He was of course descended from a family of five generations of wood furniture makers and had his own knowledge that had been passed down from generation to generation. The knowledge he obtained from books and outside sources only enhanced his natural gifts of home furniture (hem möbler) making.

This father of design also created the Pernilla chair.  This chair was made for an easy chair or a lounge chair type of style.  There were materials that were used that actually began the organic material use in home furniture (hem möbler).  This home furniture (hem möbler) genius passed away in the year 1988 and left us with many of his brilliant designs.

Yngve Ekström was born in the year 1913 in a town in Sweden that has the longest and oldest tradition in furniture making. Yngve and his brother Jerker started the company Swedese. This home furniture (hem möbler) design company was created in the year 1945.  Yngve was an active part of the company up until his death some forty some odd years later. Among other designs he was famous for the lamino chair.

The other home furniture (hem möbler) designers all gave parts of them selves to the furniture world.  They gave years of their lives that were dedicated to making the best Swedish furniture that could possibly have been.  Many of their designs are still in use today and they are fetching quite a sum of money to obtain them.  These timeless designs are worth every penny you pay for them even now.  Not only are these home furniture (hem möbler) designs timeless but they are also very well crafted.  Wegner himself had over 500 different types of chair designs.  To find any of these home furniture (hem möbler) designs you simply must find a reputable furniture dealer and you will find exactly what you are looking for.  If you can not find a store that is local the internet is full of places where you can order any of this timeless home furniture (hem möbler) at any time.

About Me

Scandinavian design has set the standard internationally in the furniture industry and this was largely achieved in the post-war era when Scandinavian countries were relatively poor. This inspired a great deal of inventiveness as Scandinavians had to be very creative in using whatever materials they could get their hands on.
