A solar pool heating system is not a hard concept to understand. Let's take a look at exactly how it works. First there is what is called a solar collector. This is a device in which pool water is circulated through to be heated by the sun. Then there is a filter and this of course removes and dirt and debris before the water is pumped through the collector. The pump is what obviously pumps the water through the collector and back to the pool. There is also a flow control valve that will manually or automatically divert water through the solar collector.
So what happens is that the pool water is taken from the pool and pumped through the filter to clean the water of any debris. It is then pumped into the solar collectors and ran through those. Here is where the solar energy from the sun will heat the water. Once the water is heated it is returned to the pool. Now anyone who lives in a very warm climate during the summer months will know that the pool water usually gets pretty warm by itself during the mid summer. Sometimes it is so warm that is no longer refreshing to swim in. This is when the water would be run through the collector at night to cool off the water. |
