For the past week University of Cincinnati students brought it to fruition of 18 months of work by dozens of University of Cincinnati students has sat in a field on the National Mall.
The energy-efficient trailer home designed and built by University of Cincinnati students as their entry in the Solar Decathlon rolled into town in 8-foot wide sections on four trucks. The competition is sponsored by the Department of Energy that aims to produce the most "attractive, effective and energy-efficient solar-powered house."
University of Cincinnati already had to make one cut in the competition to join 19 other schools among 40 that applied to receive an invitation to showcase their houses here. This week, those finalists have competed in 10 individual events, ranging from architecture to a cook-off to showcase the houses' functionality.
The University of Cincinnati team got off to a good start and ranked as high as fifth earlier in the week, but heading into the competition's final day today, it had slipped to 17t |
