Solar Panels, 800.292.7648
• 2007-Nov-15 - California Solar Panels
Construction of solar panels is scheduled for completion this month, completing the renovation of Lot 9, according to college administrators.
The steel panels will absorb sunlight during the day, producing and storing electricity to be released at night.
Installing the energy-efficient panels is part of a solar power project throughout the entire district initiated to conserve energy, as well as to reduce utility costs.
"We want to save ourselves future costs," Vice President Carol Maga said. "We would rather see the money go toward serving students."
In addition to the administration, students are also supportive of the idea of solar panels.
"More lights would be a good thing, because the area we're in doesn't feel very safe at night," nursing major Jessica Gailey said. "If it saves energy, that will be even better."
Another benefit to installing the panels is that students and staff will be able to park under their shade during the day.
The construction has occurred in stages, several of which have been completed so far.
Since renovations for the lot began in May, the parking lot has been repaved, foundations were put in, and wires were installed. |
