Tinnitus

2008-May-21 - How the Food That We Take in Can Possibly Cause Tinnitus

Not all types of tinnitus can be irritating to the person having it. The volume and intensity of the ringing in the ears can vary from a very mild to a very loud noise. The loudest tinnitus can be unbearable to the person having it. It can interfere with the normal activities and sleep pattern of the person. A person suffering from tinnitus can possibly lose focus of his life and may just live to deal with the very big problem of that noise in the ears.

There are so many factors which can contribute to the volume of the tinnitus and these are the things that a person with tinnitus must be aware of. Pointed out as one of the major causes of tinnitus recently, is the exposure to loud noise. Loud noise can damage the hair cells in the inner ears, which is the one responsible for transmitting sound waves. Further exposure to loud noise does not only cause further damage but will also guarantee a much louder tinnitus.

Because one type of tinnitus is the pulsatile type of tinnitus, which can be caused by some obstruction in the artery, we can safely say that the food that we take in, can possibly cause us tinnitus. Obstructions in the artery may be caused by our excessive intake of caffeine (which may be found in soda drinks, chocolates, coffee and tea), cholesterol, sugar, saturated fat, processed foods, dairy products, alcohol, and nicotine from cigarettes.

Fluid build up in the ear which can come from a condition called Meniere's disease is another cause of tinnitus. Hence, too much salt in the diet must also be avoided for this can cause fluid retention. The food intake of a person with tinnitus must be nutritious to keep their immune system boosted and for them to be less likely stressed out, since stress can worsen the ringing in the ears.

Some nutritional supplements can help provide relief from tinnitus. Vitamin B complex, Magnesium, and Zinc are some important supplements that may help a person with tinnitus.

2008-Apr-25 - Eliminate the Ringing in Your Ears with Tinnitus Retraining Therapy

Most of those who have tinnitus, experience a very nagging ringing in the ears and it may puzzle them why they are hearing this noise. It is a very big question that needs a concrete answer. What they would usually be worried about is the fact that they hear such noises which does not come from within their environment. This makes it difficult for them to figure out how to stop the ringing in the ears or perhaps control the intensity of the noise.

It is important to consult a physician not only for the diagnosis of the cause of the tinnitus but to hear an explanation on the mechanism of the ringing in the ears. A person suffering from tinnitus may become paranoid and think that the ringing in the ears they are hearing may indicate a very serious illness. This paranoia may cause them to worry a lot, and even lead to stress. Once they become stressed, the ringing in the ears becomes much louder, thus causing them to worry more.

One of the known methods of tinnitus treatment is tinnitus masking therapy. This type of treatment makes use of a white noise recording which a person listens to. The white noise will serve as a diversion from the ringing in the ears, making a person ignore the ringing noise and listen more to the white noise. It is used effectively by those who have sleep problems, and those who need to concentrate.

Tinnitus retraining therapy uses a combination of tinnitus masking therapy and a series of counseling sessions to make a person forget about the tinnitus. They say that a person who undergoes tinnitus masking therapy may only experience improvement after 18 months and there are some impatient individuals who do not complete the therapy. This therapy takes time as a person is educated of the mechanism of the ringing in the ears, to assure them there is nothing to worry about and help them to condition themselves to ignore the ringing in the ears.

Those who have successfully completed treatment may notice that they have learned to live with their tinnitus. This simply means that they still have a ringing in the ears but the noise no longer bothers them, making them feel like the ringing in the ears is completely eliminated.

2008-Apr-2 - Ears and Tinnitus

We were born with 5 senses: sense of touch, sense of smell, sense of sight, sense of taste and sense of hearing. Our sense of hearing is very vital. We need to be able to hear things for us to learn how to speak. It would be impossible for a person to speak properly if one is deprived of the ability to hear. Our ears is our organ for hearing and we need to take utmost care of it. Any damage to our ears may bring about damage to our hearing.

Hearing damage has been pointed out as one major cause for a condition called tinnitus. Tinnitus is the perception of a ringing, humming, buzzing, roaring, hissing, or ticking sound in the ears which does not actually have an external source. The noise that a person with tinnitus hears is actually a result of the brain's reaction to the absence of sound waves it receives from the ears.

It can then be concluded that any hearing problem can be associated with tinnitus. To take care of our ears, we must be aware of the certain do's and don'ts that will help us avoid doing things that we must not do to our ears.

We must regularly clean our ears, but only the external area. The internal ear must be left for the doctor to clean. We must also avoid exposing our ears not only to loud noise but also to loud music. Anything that is loud can damage the nerve endings of the hair cells in our cochlea which is responsible for transmitting sound waves to the brain. If exposure to noise is inevitable, ear muff and ear plugs may be used. We must not use ear scrapers in using our ears because we might be tempted to dig dipper into the inner ears and puncture our eardrums.

The bottom line of it all, any abuse that we do to any part of our body will never do us any good and the same thing goes for our ears. If we do not want a condition like tinnitus, all we have to do is always play it safe and take good care of our ears.

2008-Mar-17 - How to Stop Ringing in the Ears

Posted in Ear Ringing

We hate it when somebody nags us nonstop and we hate it more when we are at a noisy surrounding. We just want to scream at them to stop. This is the same feeling experienced by those who have a ringing in the ears. They wish they can just also scream to make the ringing in their ears stop. Unfortunately, no amount of screaming can make this ringing noise in the ears stop. Most of them feel frustrated when they begin to sense they are helpless with this ringing in the ears that they have. But they are willing to do just about anything just to know how to stop ringing in the ears.

The most important thing to do is to know the person who is highly trusted to know the proper ways and means on how to stop ringing in the ears. Because this is a condition which affects the ears, it is recommended that you consult with an ENT specialist if you have a ringing in the ears for proper evaluation and guidance on what to do.

The ENT specialist will inform you what causes a ringing in the ears and explain to you why you are hearing noises which only you can hear and does not come from an external source. They are also well trained to conduct a series of tests to determine the exact cause for the ringing in the ears and most of all recommend methods how to stop ringing in the ears.

Although a ringing in the ears is a symptom and most likely does not have a cure, those with a ringing in the ears must be positive for there are certain ways to stop ringing in the ears. Remedies and treatments for ringing in the ears, like herbal treatments, homeopathic remedies, masking therapy, tinnitus retraining therapy, etc. are best used under the supervision of an expert. It is also recommended that along with these treatments and remedies, a person with ringing in the ears take some preventive measures to avoid factors that would aggravate a ringing in the ears like taking in too much salt, caffeine, and alcohol. Regular exercises is also needed to increase blood circulation along with eating the right food to boost the immune system.

2008-Feb-20 - Going Natural in Treating Tinnitus

Posted in Tinnitus
Natural Treatments for Tinnitus

Before trying out commercially available treatments for ringing in the ears, it is recommended that sufferers use natural treatments for tinnitus first. These treatments are practical, so you do not have to worry about not being able to maintain them. They can be as basic as not exposing your ears to loud noises and assessing your diet.

Tinnitus can be triggered by certain agents such as nicotine, alcohol, salty foods, cheese and chocolate. So this would mean that sufferers may have to watch the kinds of food that they eat, and those who smoke may have to quit smoking. One thing you should consider is that your diet should be rich in protein, zinc, choline, and the vitamins A, B, and E. Furthermore, you might have known that ringing in the ears can be caused by certain conditions that involve blood circulation such as hypertension, anemia, and atherosclerosis. Thus, doing proper exercise and having your blood pressure checked would help reduce the ringing in your ears.

Speaking of basic and practical, natural treatments for tinnitus can be done by staying away from places where you will be exposed to loud noise. Or if it cannot be avoided, you should wear hearing protection devices such as earplugs and special earmuffs. The use of herbal and homeopathic tinnitus remedies are also considered natural, for the substances used in preparing them are derived from nature. Also, they have no side effects, which is in contrast to some conventional drugs.

But among the natural tinnitus treatments, the best treatment is not to get stressed and frustrated. Treatments may take some time to take effect, so patience is a requirement here, although the sufferers are advised to try out the commercially available treatments if they do not see signs of improvements after using the natural ones for some time. Remember that stress worsens tinnitus, and treatments would be of no use if the help does not come from ourselves.

2008-Feb-8 - Tinnitus Masking Treatment the Tinnitus Silencer

Tinnitus masking treatment is a tinnitus silencer because of its capability to just shut off the noisy ear ringing that a person with tinnitus may want to eliminate. This type of treatment makes use of white noise to mask the noisy ear ringing that is heard by a person with tinnitus.

White noise comes from CD recordings which may be sourced from a shower sound, aircraft cabin or a pure white noise which sounds pretty much like that of the sound that you get when you turn your television into an empty channel.

There is something in these sounds that takes the attention of the person off from the tinnitus noise, hence making it seem like they can no longer hear the noisy ringing in the ears whenever they are using tinnitus masking treatment. This type of treatment is usually used by those who have problems sleeping because of their tinnitus.

Lack of sleep is one of the biggest problems of those who have tinnitus and this happens because it is at night when our surroundings become apparently quiet and it exaggerates the noise that they hear in their ear, distracting them and keeping them from getting the rest they need. Tinnitus masking treatment can help those who have this problem because it provides them with temporary silence from the noise every time they listen to the white noise.

There are some instances however when maskers do not work for some types of tinnitus and the best thing to do is to put your tinnitus to a test by standing next to a faucet with running water. If you feel some significant improvement listening to the flow of the water, then there is a great chance that tinnitus masking treatment will work for you.

Though the relief that tinnitus masking treatment provides is good only when it is being used by the person with tinnitus, a lot of those who have tinnitus still prefer it. Besides, it is better than having no relief at all.

2007-Nov-26 - What is the Best Thing to do if you Happen to have Tinnitus

But there are also a lot of people out there who may not be aware that the ringing in the ears that they have is a condition called tinnitus and needs immediate medical intervention. With these contrasting facts, we may ask what is the best thing to do if you happen to have tinnitus.

If you happen to read this and you have already experienced tinnitus or you know of somebody who might have encountered tinnitus then you will be informed of the important things that you must do after reading through this article. Tinnitus is a symptom of a problem which may involve the ears, head and neck. It is a symptom which must not be taken for granted since there are some serious illnesses which may cause a ringing in the ear.

One serious illness which may cause tinnitus is a tumor. Minor causes of tinnitus can be attributed to ear wax impaction or sudden exposure to loud noise. A tumor can be alarming since it can either be malignant or benign, and we all know that a malignant tumor can metastasize to other important organs in our body and may cause a serious threat to our health before we even get diagnosed of it.

It is therefore imperative to have a thorough medical check up in order to rule out serious illnesses when a person experiences tinnitus. As a person experiences a ringing in the ears, whether a loud or mild ringing is involved, immediate check up with a specialist must be undertaken to instantly identify if the problem is something major or just a minor one.

tinnitus treatmentMild tinnitus must not be dismissed as nothing serious and not needing medical attention. All serious illnesses start from a minor problem and balloons into a big one because it is left unattended. So save yourself or a person you love from having serious health problems, take a ringing in the ear as a precaution and seek medical attention now.

If you spend any time doing research about tinnitus and how best to treat it, you are sure to find that there is simply no easy way to get rid of it. There are no conventional prescription medications for tinnitus, at least none that work and that is the reason most people are turning to natural tinnitus remedies in an effort to find some tinnitus relief.

homeopathic tinnitus remedyThe main problem found using conventional medications to relieve or treat tinnitus is that they are aimed at curing the symptoms of tinnitus i.e. the ringing in the ears, instead of treating the causes of tinnitus.
This is problematical because tinnitus can be caused by a host of conditions and it is for this reason that there is simply no conventional cure for tinnitus.

The best cure for tinnitus is most certainly to use a natural remedy for tinnitus in conjunction with a change in lifestyle  so that the condition or circumstance that caused the tinnitus in the first place are also addressed.

living tinnitus free Although many people have amazing success using homeopathic tinnitus remedies such as those supplied by T-Gone.com, those tinnitus sufferers who report a lasting relief are those follow treatment  as outlined in the previous paragraph i.e. those tinnitus sufferers who are prepared to go the whole hog and change their lifestyle and not just to try and treat their tinnitus by popping a couple of pills.

2007-Nov-9 - Tinnitus Question

Posted in Tinnitus
My mother recently complained of a hissing noise in the ear and when she went to see her doctor she was told to have a condition called tinnitus. What is that all about? Is it in any way dangerous?

Tinnitus is a ringing in the ear and it is a symptom of disease.  There must be a problem with your mother’s ear that might cause the tinnitus. Tinnitus sounds are said to be a result of our brain creating false sounds since the ear is not able to perceive outside sound and send it to the brain for interpretation.

No it’s not dangerous.  Tinnitus is not a terminal disease but it can truly affect your mom since tinnitus sounds would really be bothersome for some people.

Tinnitus may be caused by several factors.  Does your mother have partial hearing loss? Did she take some drugs prior to having that condition? FYI there are several drugs out there that can cause tinnitus so it’s best to read the drug literature of the medicines we are taking and take precautionary measures.

Well if you ask me, some tinnitus can be caused by tumors so my answer to your second question would be a yes.  It’s not that I am scaring you or something.  I am just being realistic here.  Maybe to address your query you will need to ask her physician about that. I’m hoping its nothing serious for your mom.

Ringing of Ears Information

When you experience problems in your ears, whether it has something to do with your eardrums, ear infections, tumors, or fluid retention you could develop ringing of ears.  All these problems involve hearing problems that is why they are all related to tinnitus.

The brain acts abnormally when there is a problem with hearing.  It usually looks for the sound signals that the ears deliver but since there isn’t any, it produces that abnormal sound as a product of its effort to produce the sound signals, which we interpret as ringing of ears.

Ears Ringing

Presbycusis among the older generation and exposure to loud noise among the younger generation causes ears ringing.  These are the two most common causes of ringing in the ears now-a-days.

Presbycusis among the older generation isn’t that alarming because it is a known fact that as a person grows older, hearing problems arises because of the degeneration of the hair cells.  What is alarming is the sudden rise of incidence of hearing loss among the younger generation.  They put the blame to their exposure to loud noise or music.

They usually find out about it only when they already have a mild hearing loss.  This is the big problem because they continue to expose their ears when they listen to extremely loud music.  By the time they discover that the loud music is damaging their hearing, it is already too late and there is nothing more that can be done to save them from having hearing loss.

There is an urgent need to have information dissemination so as to inform those who love listening to music of the dangers that listening to loud music can do to their ears.  It has always been a misconception that your ears will in time become immune to loud music as you continuously expose it.

The reality is that the more you expose your ears, the more you put your ears to danger and the possibility of having your ears ringing

2007-Oct-9 - Pure White Noise

Where To Find Pure White Noise

White noise is often touted as a remedy for sleeplessness, lack of concentration, or tinnitus.  Much of what we consider white noise, though, is only an approximation of white noise. To find pure white noise, we must be a little more discerning.

Noises in the everyday world are often thought of as white noise.  A fan running, the sound of the wind rushing by an open car window as you drive down the road, the sound of rain coming down on the roof and windows are all examples of noises people think of as white noise.  These are not actually pure white noise at all.

Pure white noise is only produced when all the frequencies between about 20 Hz and 20 kHz are emitted together.  That means all of the tones that the ear can hear must be played at once.  Otherwise, you just have something that sounds something like white noise but isn’t really pure white noise.

This pseudo pure white noise can be somewhat effective at easing the roaring and buzzing ear noises of tinnitus.  It may work well for some.  But, it is not steady or convenient.  It isn’t quite as successful at masking tinnitus noises as the real pure white noise is.

Pure white noise can only be obtained by manufacturing it.  While other sounds may have many audible frequencies, only manufactured noise can have them all.  This is done digitally to insure that all the frequencies in the audible range are included.

Sound conditioners are often used to produce pure white noise.  These machines emit a noise that sounds like a wind or a fan, but actually contains all the necessary frequencies.  They are available through home medical supply companies and catalog stores.  They usually cost a few hundred dollars.  Sound generators which can be worn like hearing aids can also play pure white noise.  These, however, are more expensive.

White noise CD can be obtained through the mail, in stores, or over the internet.  These are recorded from synthesized sound so that, for the length of the CD, there is no looping (repeating).  They are very inexpensive, typically running you about $20.  Then all you need is an ordinary CD player to use them with.

Noise that is nearly white noise is easy to find.  Just listen around your house or yard.  You will probably find some sound that will block the annoying ear noises of your tinnitus to some degree.  However, if you want the effectiveness of pure white noise, you’ll probably have to go shopping for it.

2007-Aug-26 - Exposure To Loud Noise Can Lead To Premature Death

Posted in Tinnitus
A startling new report just released by the World Health Organisation warns that continual exposure to excessive loud noises such as traffic noise or night-time noise can result in premature death due to heart disease.

This follows an extensive study they undertook in Europe and the UK which found that up to 3% of deaths from heart disease deaths were as a result of exposure to chronic excessive exposure to noise. This has enormous implications for tinnitus sufferers and confirms the findings Ellen Currie reported in her recent book Living Tinnitus Free.

The study found that it is the increased levels of stress hormones in the body due to the exposure to noise that is responsible for strokes and the premature deaths.
