Roulette and the types of bets you can make.

When it comes to the game of roulette people are very devoted to it.  Roulette has been around for hundreds of years and although it may not be as popular as black jack in the United States, in Europe roulette is one of the most popular games that there are to gamble with.  Roulette has a very long history and it has some wonderful odds when playing.

There are so many people that actually play roulette it is hard to believe that some do not know how to play or how to bet.  They may be too embarrassed to ask how to play or how to bet when it comes to roulette so this article may be of some use to them.  We are going to look at the inside bets and the outside bets.  Those are the two types of bets that there are when it comes to roulette.  Within the two types of bets, the inside bet and the outside bet there are several different types of bets.  For instance with the inside bet there is the Straight up bet, there is the split bet, there is the street bet or the line bet, the corner bet or the quad bet, the basket bet and the double street bet.  The outside bets have the red or black bet, the odds or evens bet, the dozens bet and the column bets.  I know it all sounds very confusing for those who do not understand but it is really quite simple and when you break it down you will understand a whole lot better.

First the outside bets.  The outside bets are easy and a lot of people like to play the outside bets.  It is also a great place to start betting when you are first starting out playing roulette.  The red or black bets are fairly self explanatory.  You can bet that the ball will land on a red spot or a black spot.  That is the same for the odds or evens bet.  You place your bet on whether the ball will land on an odd or an even spot.  The dozens bet is placed on twelve numbers at a time.  You can choose the numbers one through twelve, the numbers thirteen through twenty four or the numbers twenty five through thirty six.  Those are your blocks of twelve numbers, hence dozens bet.   The column bets are also placed on twelve numbers but these bets are placed on the column of numbers that are on the roulette table.  Both the dozens and the columns bets are two to one and if the ball lands on zero or the double zero then you lose the hand.

The inside bets are a little different.  These payouts are a lot better but with much less chance of you winning the hand.  The straight up bet is great if you win it.  It pays thirty five to one and the bet is placed on a single number.  The split bet is placed on two different numbers.  The way that you place this type of bet is by placing your chips on the line between two of the numbers on the table.  This bet pays out seventeen to one.  The street or the line bet pays eleven to one and is placed so the chips straddle the first number in the row, and placed in the line that separates the outside and the inside bets.  The corner bet or the quad bet is a good one.  You can bet on four numbers and you do so by placing the chips on the corner of the four numbers you want.  The basket bet is placed on the numbers zero, one, two, three, and double zero.  The double street bet is just like the street bet but the chips must be placed so they straddle the row that is above and below.  These are the types of roulette bets in their simplest forms.
