We have all heard those ads and commercials on the radio and television for donating your car to charity and they will come and tow it away for free. The idea of donating your car to a charity sits well with many people as they feel they are helping someone and the idea of someone coming to your home and towing away your car for free sounds very helpful to you most of the time. Most of the cars that we donate to charity do not usually run the best and someone coming out to tow the car for free is really doing us a favor. Not to mention that you can receive a nice tax deduction for donating the car. That is a wonderful little fact when you donate your car and have it towed for free.
These charities are really quite popular and many people across the nation participate in it. It feels like a win-win situation for you and why should you not benefit from it also by them coming out to tow away a usually not running vehicle? But what happens after you call them up and they come out and tow away your car? Does anyone really know what happens next or do we just not really care because we basically just got rid of a piece of junk car that we were not really using anyway for free?
Most of us settle with being happy the car was towed away for free and we do not have to worry about it anymore. And we feel better about it because it was donated to a charity and that is a good deed for us to do. That is where the majority of people stop caring about it and that is ok to do. You did do a good deed for someone and your old car will benefit someone else and that should make you feel good. But there are still some questions. One of those would be how do you get your tax deduction for most people. When you donate the car the charity will let you know about how to get your tax deduction usually.
In most cases the tax break amount will be determined by the giver of the car. When you call the charity they will tell you to look up the amount the car is worth in a Kelly Blue Book for a basis. They also have a system that is similar to a grading system. There is a low, medium and a high. These are all how the car is valued. When you do this and most people are honest and choose the appropriate grade of value for their car you will still end up getting a better deal than if you simply sell the car to a junk yard for scrap auction. Again many of these cars that are donated for free and towed away will not really run the best. In many places though the car needs to at least run and be able to pass inspection. That can usually happen with out the car working to its greatest capacity. So by donating your car to a charity and having them come out and tow away your car for free, you are really benefiting in many aspects. You are getting rid of a car that was probably a thorn in your side and you are getting a tax break that is usually higher than what you should really get for your car. Donating your car to a charity of your choice is still a wonderful idea because in the long run the charity will benefit from your gesture and you will get your car towed away for free.
