Free Towing Services - Tow car to tow yard

2007-Dec-4 - I should have been prepared to tow my car

So you are driving along a road and everything is just fine then suddenly something happens.  Whether it is a flat tire or your car just stopping, or you sliding off the road or even a small accident your vehicle is not going anywhere.  Your first question is how do I tow my car.  Towing your car can be something that is a very serious thing.  There are many things to consider after the first question of towing my car has been asked.  You need to decide on what towing company to call and if you are not with any kind of road side assistance plan it may be a bit overwhelming to decide upon which tow services to call.

If you happen to belong to a road side assistance program then all you really need to do is to call that company and they will send out what ever tow service that they work with.  So that decision is averted and you only really have to make the one phone call.  If you are in an accident and your car needs to be towed the police or emergency service people will call a tow company that they work with and you will be able to find out more after you are feeling better.  But if you do not have any kind or road side assistance program then you will have to find a tow company that can come out and get your car or your truck.   This is when you may feel overwhelmed.  First of all not all tow services cost the same price and each tow company is different.  Sometimes when you call for a tow you may get the most expensive one.  If you call information and ask for the nearest tow company to your location the operator may not give you the number to the least expensive company and it could cost you quite a bit to have your car towed.

There is not really anything you could at that point because unless you have a phone book in your car you kind of have to use the number that the information operator gives to you.  Then when the tow service comes out you do not really have a choice but to use them.  Especially if you are unlucky enough to break down during some foul weather, which is usually the way it happens.

Once the tow company arrives you will have to pay the fees that they require in order to get your vehicle and your self to a safe place.  This is unfortunately really your only choice.  Unless of course you were wise and prepared your self for such a situation.  Sometimes it would be best if when ever you get a new car you should go through the phone book and decide upon a tow company.  You can call around and get some quotes on how much things would cost you.  Now you may be saying how you would know where and when you would break down to get a quote but the tow company can tell you general information. Like how much it would cost for a tow for two miles or something to that affect. By getting comparison quotes from different tow companies you can prepare yourself in advance to make sure you are not overwhelmed if something happened to your car and you do not belong to a road side assistance program.

Once you have found the tow service that you would like to use keep their phone number somewhere in your car.  Keeping the number handy in either the glove compartment or a emergency kit would be a good idea.  By preparing yourself you will not be faced with a difficult decision or have to make a choice that you really do not want to make if you have already done the research and decide upon the towing company you wish to use.
