Retail signage can make or break a business. By using the proper retail signage you can increase your business potential immensely. If your business uses retail signage in a wrong way or a way that does not get across to potential clients or customer than you need to reevaluate how you are using your retail signage.
One of the first things you need to do for proper retail signage is to make sure that there are only a few words or an image or two on the signs. For any signs that are hung outside of your business you need to make sure that a customer or potential customer can see your sign and understand what it is trying to get across to them in a matter of seconds. Two to three seconds is all you really have to make an impression on them. That is the amount of time they will see your sign when passing by in a car or truck. You have to grab their attention enough to make them want to frequent your business.
By using only a few words in your retail signage you will ensure that the potential customer will understand what you are trying to tell them. for instance if you use the words free or sale the customer will understand immediately and want to go to your store or business to see about the sale you are having. By using a few small words that make a big impact on someone you are using your retail signage to its full potential.
Another factor for proper retail signage use would have to be the location of the signs. If you use a sign that is in a bad spot and no one can really see it, then it is not doing all it can for your business. If you use signs that are close to your business you may want to think about putting arrows that are pointing in the direction of your business. Always make sure they actually point in the right direction though. Have signs that have your business logo on them and if they are close give the amount of miles to the business. Things like that work very well on signs that are outside of the business.
If you are using signs that are right in the window of the store or hanging around the store make sure they are visible by everyone. Hanging a small six inch sign ten feet up on a wall is not going to be good for advertising. For smaller signs you should hang them at eye level and the larger signs should be hung above things so many people can see it. This is where you should use the words like sale or free or half off. These words will attract attention to the area and people will go to see what is going on there. This is a very effective tool to use to sell certain items.
When you are making your retail signage you need to use colors that will catch the eye. Using a brown or purple letter on a dark background will in no way catch the attention of anyone. If you use bold neon greens and oranges on a black or white background you are sure to grab people’s attention. This will work wonders for your sales. When you use certain colors they tend to work better than other colors. Use colors that make people want to shop. By using colors that do not allow anyone to see what you are trying to say it will be an improper use of retail signage. Do a little research if you plan on making your own signs or you can have a professional make them for you. Either way you are sure to increase your business by using retail signage.
