What's it like living at Taft Prison Camp?Taft Prison Camp is a facility without walls, although none of the inmates leave, I suppose you could just walk away. It is not managed by the Bureau of Prisons, but is independently managed by a private company.The Camp is part of the Taft Correctional Institution. Taft Camp sits directly behind the larger, low-security prison that is enclosed by double-wide fences that are topped and separated by coils of glistening razor wire. The camp holds minimum-security prisoners who have been convicted of violating federal laws. The grounds of Taft Prison Camp are like an oasis in the middle of dry desert surroundings. Those who were facing criminal charges or convicted of felony criminal indictments would be surprised at the pleasant appearance of the atmosphere if they were designated to serve sentences at the camp. The buildings at the camp are of a modern architecture, the grounds are green and well kept, the recreational facilities are outstanding, and the people are very friendly. Michael Santos arrived at the Taft Camp in the summer of 2007. Since then, he states he has passed the easiest portion of the 21-plus years that he has been confined thus far.
