What's it like at Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix?

Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Dix, also known as FCI Fort Dix, is a low-security prison with an adjacent minimum-security camp. It is located in central New Jersey, on the Fort Dix military base. The McGuire Air Force Base is next to the Fort Dix Army Base, and jets seem to be constantly flying in and out of the military installation.

Michael Santos writes about Fort Dix from personal experience.  He was confined inside the fences of Fort Dix, East between the years of 1996 and 2003. The east side of the compound is enclosed by a set of double-wide, chain link fences. Coils of razor wire are woven through the tops of the fences and between the fences to prevent escape attempts. Inside the fences, more than 2,000 prisoners are confined to six housing units. The men sleep in rooms that hold two, eight, twelve, or more prisoners. Several community bathrooms and day rooms are available. Recreation included weight lifting facilities, handball courts, basketball, racquetball, and hobby craft. A large leisure and law library are available for inmate use. Visiting is available several days each week, during the day on weekends and holidays and during the afternoon and evening on weekdays.
