Life at FTC Oklahoma

Michael Santos writes about his experiences at the Oklahoma Federal Transit Center -  a high-rise detention center located directly on the grounds of the airport at Oklahoma City.  He has been through that transit center on five separate occasions. It serves as a holdover center for individuals who are facing federal criminal indictments as well as for individuals who are in transit to various prisons across the United States.

Inmates who are being booked into the FTC Oklahoma, generally, fly in on planes operated by the U.S. Marshal Service. The booking procedures are among the most efficient that I have experienced during my 21 years of imprisonment. The planes taxi up directly to the FTC, and marshals escort the prisoners off.

Upon disembarking, the marshals commence to unshackle the prisoners and send them to various holding tanks. The prisoners are then processed into various housing units. During the processing, inmates learn their place of destination.
