Lompoc Prison - A Minimum Security Camp

Federal Correctional Complex Lompoc is located in northern Santa Barbara County on the central coast of California. It sits about two hours north of Los Angeles, and about two hours west of Bakersfield.

Besides the minimum-security camp at Lompoc, there is a low-security federal correctional institution that sits adjacent to the camp, and a much older medium-security United States Penitentiary that sits on the property as well.

The camp was designed to hold only about 200 people, but with the overcrowded conditions of the Bureau of Prisons, the camp confined about 340 people in two housing units.  Since 2007, a second, adjacent camp was opened that holds another group of prisoners who participated in a Residential Drug Awareness Program (RDAP).

If you are confined in Lompoc Prison, you will find the weather pleasant with a cool ocean breeze at night.  A small comfort in this home away from home, mostly for white collar criminals.
