Sheridan FCI - A Medium-Security PrisonThe Federal Correctional Institution at Sheridan is part of a complex that holds three separate institutions. The complex is located about 90 miles south of Portland, Oregon, and those who serve time there enjoy the temperate weather of the Pacific Northwest. Most of the prisoner population comes from the Northwest and California. The medium-security FCI confines more than 1,500 men inside double fences that are separated and capped with coils of glistening razor wire. Inside the prison, the men are housed in one of eight housing units. Each housing unit holds between 150 and 200 prisoners. They are not allowed to spend time visiting in other housing units, though the men may congregate in small numbers on the recreation yard, in the education building, in the chapel, or during meals in the main chow hall.
