FCI Waseka in MN

The Federal Correctional Institution in Waseka is a federal prison that opened in the 1990s. It is rated as low-security. In the past, the facility was used for purposes other than confining those who have been convicted after facing federal criminal indictments. Administrators made changes necessary, and installed a doublewide chain link fence that completely enclosed the perimeter of the prison. To fortify security further, they wove razor wire through the top of the fences, and they laid many coils of razor wire between the two fences to deter attempts at prison breaks.

As a low-security prison, FCI Waseka confines offenders whom administrators have deemed ineligible for minimum-security placement. Those offenders do not have the criminal histories, sentence length, or records of disruptive behavior that would require their placement in either medium-security or a high-security penitentiary.
