How To Select The Most Professional Web Designer - Posted at 08:30 on 2007-Oct-13 by Duncan Carver

Your website is an important part of your business, and this is why it’s so important that you choose your web designer very carefully. There are many things that you can do to ensure that they are a professional web designer.

A professional web design will have certain criteria, and if you know what these criteria’s are then you will be able to tell right away whether or not the web designer is professional or not.

While it’s important that your website be visibly appealing this is not the only thing that is important. Of course when your visitor first comes to a site they want to see a visually nice site, but the key to a professional site is that it is easy to navigate. In order for the website to be easily navigated it must be well thought out, and there is going to be many things that must be taken into consideration. This is the first sign that the web designer is a professional web designer.

Another important thing to look for when you are trying to find a professional web designer is that the content on the site is error free. If there are errors then the website was not proofread by an editor. These type of errors will decrease your businesses credibility.

Okay here’s another very important thing to look for, and if this is not correct it can destroy your chances of being listed in the search engines.  And this is that the coding on the site contains any errors. There are many free tools available on the internet that you can find this information out. All you would need to do is take the code from the website and place it into the box on the website. Here’s how you can get the HTML code from websites.

1- Point your mouse on an empty space of the website and right click on the mouse.

2- Select View Source. A Notepad document will open up and there will be a bunch of code in it. This is probably going to be gibberish to you, but don’t worry you don’t need to understand it.

3- Now in this Notepad document you need to go to Edit and the Select All. This is going to select all of the text in the document.

4- Okay once all of the text is highlighted you are going to copy the text. You will go to Edit and then select Copy. Now you can place this text into the website and find out if the code is validated or not.

If the code is validated then you have potentially found a professional web designer. But this is not the sole factor in determining a professional they need to fit all of the criteria listed above.

One more thing you should be looking at every potential designer’s portfolio to find the samples of their work, and if they do not have one then you should continue your search. You are not going to be able to research their work if they do not have any to show.

Having a professional web site developed for your business is extremely important and I can’t stress that enough. First impressions are everything and if you do not have a good first impression then you will lose the chance of turning that visitor into a paying customer. Putting in the time to research each web designer is the key to finding the best professional to complete this very important task for you, and you may even find a great deal during your research as well.
