Weight Loss Made Simple

2007-Jul-10 - Get On Your Bike To Lose 10 Pounds On For Free

So you trying to lose weight and your thinking a good way to get started is to lose 10 pounds I doubt your thinking of using that old bike you have got going rusty in the basement or maybe going out on a sunday afternoon with the kids mountain biking.

It might come as no suprise to you but most people when they think about losing 10 or maybe 20 pounds in weight immediately think I must go on a diet. This fills thier mind with visions of unappetizing foods and hard exercise sessions in the gym.

But it doesn't have to be that way. If you're looking to lose 10 pounds while still having fun and getting some fresh air, look instead to what was probably one of your favorite childhood activities: bicycling.

There are many benefits to biking, but the main one and probably the most obvious one is that it's really the only form of exercise that can also function as transportation.Ok we could include things like canoing in there but lets be honest we don't all have access to water let alone a canoe.

The biggest reason I am told by clients they fail to lose weight is they just can't fit it in to their busy hectic lifestyle (funny how trips to fast food joints and restaurants always seem to fit in isn't it)

Lets imagine you plan is to lose 10 pounds so you sign up for gym membership costing a few hundred dollars and for the first few days you go every day. Yes I know that you want to get value for money so you push yourself when you first join.

But then a couple of weeks down the track you have to work late so you think you'll skip the gym, then a few days later you have to take the kids to football practice or ballet so you miss again.Eventually it becomes easier to put off going to the gym more often as then you need to go shopping, night out.... get the idea?

So you decide you are going to blow the gym out and instead of going to the gym to lose those 10 pounds you decide to bike to work. While it may take a little longer to lose the weight, by biking to work you're really losing no time at all.

If you live in a city there's a good chance that it's not going to take you a whole lot longer than a car trip does. So basically you get to lose 10 pounds "for free", as it were, because you don't have to make time for exercise.

Now that seems like a good idea don't you think?

When you engage in most other forms of exercise, you're engaging in it exclusively: you're not getting anything else done when you're at the gym apart from may be listening to a few of your favorite tunes on your IPOD.

With biking, on the other hand, the exercise is almost a secondary bonus to the primary function of getting somewhere you need to go. Add to this the fact that you're saving money on transportation and doing good for the environment, cutting out all those harmful carbon emmisons from your car, it's hard to argue against biking as one of the best forms of exercise.

By simply biking to and from work every day you should be able to lose 10 pounds fairly quickly without affecting your schedule too much. If your employer is a far enough distance away from you that you must drive, consider instead using a bike for errands outside of work.

If you want to really lose 10 pounds quickly, start biking for recreation too - some weekend bike riding will do wonders for weight loss and the kids will love it if you go with them on bike rides as well.

If you don't own a bike or live in a busy city where you don't feel safe to ride a bike you might prefer to try my 'Lose 10 Pounds in 2 Weeks Program' which will help you achieve fast weight loss with out dieting.
